Rifle Basix compared to the Sharp SS Comp. Trigger

I would like to get a new lighter pull trigger for a Savage I have.

First I might mention I am not a hater of the Accu Trigger (has standard AT now) so, if someone has a unmolested Target Accu Trigger (red blade) laying around they could part with cheaply pm me.

If not then I have really only two choices the Rifle Basix trigger that NSS carries
OR
The Competition Trigger that Sharp SS carries.
I see the Rifle Basix can can go lower (but safely?) then the Comp Trigger that only drops too 12 oz.
I have never used either so, I am wondering for those that have what would be your choice and exactly why?

:)

SAV-2 can be a bit of a bear to set up but is a nice trigger. Mine is set at 14 oz and works flawlessly. I haven't tried a lower setting, 14 oz is just where I ended up. My needs didn't require a lower setting so ....
I have me experience with the SSS trigger but hear good things about it.

I have the SAV-1, SAV-2 and the SSS Comp triggers. All three are a nice step up from the Accu-trigger. I have all three set in the 6-8 oz. range (for bench use only). The SAV-1 is a slight second of the other two and would have to flip a coin the pick which of the other two is better.

I agree with olddav. my SAV2 took around 4 hours to install and adjust and has required readjustment several times since installed a few years ago. Mine is set at 5 oz. I sometimes wonder if the readjustments I had to make were due to using the center pivot hole initially. The last time I readjusted I moved the pivot pin to the forward hole and found it much easier to adjust. I have a red blade accutrigger you could have. I'd have to research pricing.

A while back I was having trouble taking the "creep" out of one of my RB trigger. Called their main office and the owner tried to help me set it up over the phone. Still wouldn't work right. Then he said, "Well, we both don't have time to mess around with a trigger that won't adjust". "I'll send you another and I'll personally check it and make sure it's functioning properly. Two days later I had a, "no creep" trigger adjusted to 8 ozs. and I was happy!!

Just an FYI, if you go with a red blade trigger it is only half the equation. You will need a matching target sear that Savage will not sell to you without an FFL.

Lowest I could go with a red blade trigger with just a standard Accutrigger sear was 18oz.

If you like the accu trigger and just want a lighter pull I would get the varmint weight spring from NSS and swap it into your current accu trigger. I've done several with good results.

It's really not a matter of like . It's the only safe trigger made for savage . Larry

If you where saying in the below 18oz. trigger pull weight then maybe. I have no idea. Has there been any definitive tests done?
I hear both sides. Some love there RB and SSS some dont. I have owned neither thats why I posted.

Now, don't take this the wrong way as its intent is not negative.
But, as a blanket statement I have to disagree which, I am sure you did not mean it as such.
I highly doubt Timney would be selling an unsafe trigger.

But, on a side note that above trigger might rid me of the AccuTrigger blade, have possibly more adjustability, and a crisper feel but, its also rated to only go to 1.5lbs (same as current). So, I dont think its much of an option for me personally.

Archis, thanks for the heads up. I saw your post about where you bought one back in Oct.

Thanks 6.5 I will check it out.

If you read the warranty you will see they assume (No ) responsibility for the uses of the trigger. Larry

I have 2-Sav triggers and love them. Been using them for 4 years now. Exceptionally good triggers.
The owner is a great guy and can walk you through any problems you encounter. Not many options when it comes to triggers for Savage but RB has my vote.

An Experiment for those with a Rifle Basix Sav II trigger.
For all of you who use a Sav II replacement trigger and have it set lower than 12oz.
Please remove the ammunition from the rifle. Then point the muzzle in a safe direction.
Close the bolt so the rifle is cocked with the safety ON. Push the safety OFF and ON about 5 times.
Does your rifle fire on the third or fourth time the safety is pushed off and on without pulling the trigger.
I have adjusted many Rifle Basix Sav II triggers down to 4-6 oz. I have never had one set below 10-12 oz that would not fire by moving the Safety Off and on 3-5 times.
I personally don't recommend or install these triggers for Customers, too much liability .
