Richards Microfit Gunstocks

I just took delivery of one of their "bargain" laminate stocks for a Mauser action with military barrel. Before it arrived and I read the stuff in this thread I got concerned.

Well, it arrived last week. I immediately tried inserting the action and barrel. it fit like it was molded! Sure, I'll have to scrape a bit to do a proper pillar installation and bedding process, and the exterior will take some sanding. But

I'm a happy camper!!

Muffo,
I live right down the street for Richard’s. I would be more then glad to take delivery of your stock then mail it directly to you, if you think that will get you around customs.
glo ;)

Every single thing that is mailed in is screened by customs but i might get you to place an order with them for me and get them to send me a paypal invoice to me if they will

I just finshed reading the requirements Australian Quarantien and Inspection Service (AQIS). Although a wood stock for personal use appears to be free of import license and or quarantine request requirements, I bet that customs would consider it a commercial item. Therefore requiring both a license and quarantine inspection.

There is no way for a gun stock to for personal use to meet the quarantine and treatment requirements.

Keep working on your customs agent to convince him/her to allow LVL (laminated veneer lumber) type stock for personal use through with a visual inspection as a non-commercial item. Trust me, no bug is going to eat a laminated stock. And as long as its pack in bug free environment it should pass a visual inspection.

Other than that start your own company down there using lumber from Southeast Asia and you’ll get all the business.

Iv talked to a customs broker that i have used before and he says they will let it in so i can only take his word as thats his job

How long did it take you to rasp away that hump? I ask because I ordered my stocks with extra wood in several areas and that hump would have been a snap.
Lynn

I haven't bedded the stock yet so the hump remains untouched. I don't expect it to take more than a few minutes with a rasp. I'll bed it first so I can get a perfect flush fit between the wood and metal.

The wood in this stock is extremely hard so shaping it has taken awhile. I'll be putting a steel buttplate on it too, which I expect to take quite a bit of elbow grease and inletting black.

Ordered 3-8-10 and they showed up today. Looks like they got their tool sharpened because the outside finish isn't as rough as I've seen before. Not sure about the inlet but it doesn't look too bad.
Getting better all the time. ;)

I was really surprised how much better these stocks are compared to a few others that I've got. On these, the left one with the 3" forearm is mine. The other has a 2 1/2" forearm for my shooting buddy.
On mine the vent holes were cut clean. Still lots of sanding marks that will need to be worked out but in general it looks pretty good.
The other stock will need lots of work. The vents are pretty rough looking through the barrel channel. Could have used a little sharper tool to cut them. The outside of the stock has a better sanded surface. It won't take as much work to get a real good finish.
The inlet on both stocks is looking pretty good.
Got mine sprayed, pillers added and bedded.
I needed to get the wood sealed so I could handle it without getting finger prints on the bare wood. I'll go back later, pull it back down and do some heavy sanding but for now it's shootable and the wood is sealed. I'll have to think on what to do with the forearm tip.
