Richard's Microfit Gunstocks

Does anyone have any experience with Richard's Microfit Gunstocks? I am considering ordering one for my A-Bolt but I have never heard anyone recommend them. Any feedback guys?

Probably not to many folks on here will recommend a stock from microfit, just to many makers doing a better job in my opinion......

Richard's Microfit,in California), not to be confused with Richard Franklin,in Virginia), has good prices, but the Microfit stocks are delivered EXTREMELY rough and you have to do many hours of finish work. Inletting is hit and miss and if too much wood is removed by Microfit, you can have a real problem.

There are many other better sources for laminated stocks.

Like Paul says. Hit and miss is a understatement. Stocks carved with a chainsaw?? But they do have a good selection of styles.
The prices are good if you can stand the looong wait.

Being carved with a chain saw is being kind! They are no doubt very rough but as stated you have lots of options. I bought one as there was limited stock options for my 77/22. If you enjoy wood and a lot of finish work it might be a good option for you if they have something you like. If you don't than look else wear.

Boyd's is a much better source - they make stocks for Remington, Howa, and other manufacturers. and you can get any stage of finished you wan, from rough to "epoxy bed and go".

Boyd's is discontinuing stocks for the A-Bolt, but the last time I looked, they had a few available in their closeout specials. Check their website.

I got a stock from Richards micro and it comes with the chainsaw marks still left in it. It was very ruff and took alot of time. It turned out pretty nice and it was fairly cheap just a lot more than I figured.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the stock Richard's sent me was actually pretty good... it did not look like it was cut out with a chainsaw.

This is how it was right out of the box...

The marks you see in the second photo were the worst and all it took to erase them was some elbow grease and sandpaper.

The rifle finished up like this

It really wasn't that bad. The inletting did need some work, but since I pillar and glass-bedded the rifle it was relatively easy. I think it all comes down to people's expectations... if you don't mind spending some time sanding, fitting, and finishing a stock, go with Richard's Microfit. They do have a ton of stock styles available for any of their inlets and wood types/grades. I haven't got any stocks from Boyd's but I suppose they finish theirs more than Richard's.

I finished the stock with many, many coats of Tru-oil and am working on fitting inletted sling studs and a checkered steel buttplate for a classy walnut/stainless rifle. Should be nice.

Nice wood, and nice work on the stock. It was very good to see your pictures.

I just received mine, haven't started on it yet, but I wetted it down for a look at the grain, and I must say, I'm quite happy with it. I purchased from microfit for what I thought would be quality looking wood for my '37 Mauser. I purchased grade A fancy claro walnut, and would have liked to retain the original steel buttplate, however, I needed a longer length of pull, so I went with the 1 inch pad. I hope the fit goes good. If it does, then I will order from them again. Thanks for stepping up to the plate.
