RF binoculars

I have the leica geovid hd-b 2200, love it, it's invaluable tool when hunting, just shot a 420 yards javalina with it.

If there is one thing I wish it has, it would be the multiple loads on one sd card. Right now you can only save one load on a sd card, so when you switch rifle, you'll need to switch the sd card as well.

Sounds good (lucky you) I going to look them up now

I use a pair of 10 X 42 Leica Geovid BR rangefinder series which does not have the ballistics app in them.( the one prior to the hdb series)

I use them for prairie dog hunting, and since I use a ballistics app on my iphone to set my scope clicks, I use the Leicas for range, and a Kestrel windmeter for the wind. A couple years ago when I looked at the Leicas with the ballistics app, they had no input for wind, so I felt they were no advantage, since I still needed the compensate for the wind.

Leica optics are terrific. When you spend hours with the binocs to your face, they always give good clear vision.

The Zeiss are not available yet but I got to play with a pair at their annual sales meeting in December. They are nothing short of awesome. Very ergonomic. They have a button on each side that is full programmable. They link to your honep via Bluetooth and the accompanying Zeiss app let's you plug on all the ballistics for your rifles. You can program the binos for yards or meters, plus you can have it display come ups in minutes or mils. I can't wait to get my sample to play with.

I look it up on Zeiss' website, it looks very interesting, very easy to switch profile when changing rifles. The potential downfall is the bluetooth connection, it draws a lot battery, if your phone is dead then it just becomes a regular binocular.

Do you know what price range for these?

I've got a set of the new-ish Vortex Furys. No serious field time with them yet. I'm a fan of great glass. I have both a Leica and a Kowa spotting scopes and a bunch of NF scopes, but I haven't been able to justify 3x the price if the Vortex for the next step.

I was recently in the market for an alpha pair of RF binos but changed my mind after I got all excited and calmed down. I feel like the RF technology and assoc software is just starting to catch up to what it should be for the consumer market but it aint there yet. So to drop 2500+ plus on a pair now could land you with a dinosaur in a few years. Anyone wanna buy a Leica 1600b when the 2700B is just out? Next year they will have the 2700B2 that will store multiple profiles...hah
I chose to get a top grade of 10x as they will always be great and useful no matter what and then use a handheld and keep upgrading as they get smarter and more accurate.

I know the ballistics of my rifle and load very well. I just want a binocular rangefinder to spot varmints and give me the distance. There seems to be some real bargains out there right now from people who are moving up to the newest technology in ballistic calculators. God bless them because I couldn't afford one of those $3500 outfits. I happen to have a Zeiss (last year's model) that has spectacular glass and very fast rangefinder. I have friends with the various Leica Geovid models and I think they are all great glass with good rangefinder. They all have limitations for light conditions and size of target they can range at longer distances. Best rangefinder hands down in the prairie dog towns is the Swarovski. I've seen and tried them all side by side many times. I don't think Swarovski even offers ballistics in theirs.

Correct the swaro range dosent give you ballistics which is good for the long run. With the swaro range you pay the big bucks as its associated to the 'EL swarovision' grade which now has the field flattening lens for the bird nerds but you should be aware that the new range dosent have the same glass as the new el. Its a lesser grade but still great. probably closer to the new sld-hd which dosent have the field flattening lens. But if you arent worried about ultimate performance in low light and not shooting dogs at last light then swaro is prob the safest way to go. People have said the el also is not as good in the low light. I love swaro and never bought a pair and thought I should have possibly gone with the 'other brand' after the fact. I think swaro and rolex are the only two things I own that I have been satisfied with for the long term. Well I guess I would also have to put my 5.9l cummins in on that list as well.

The zeiss or leicas could possibly have better all around glass than the el ranges.

The one thing about zeiss is they have a kick ass warranty. 5yrs for any damage and then unlimited lifetime. Cant beat that if you drop your binos on a rock in year 4! The new 2018 version in hunting size 10x42 dosent cost much more than the swaro range..couple hundred retail. The victory SF non range 10x42 might be the best bino of the top 3. It also has 15% more fov and much better balance that makes it feel lighter. The focus knob is in a better place also.

Thats why im not buyin rf binos! Or atleast until the israeli wind sensing radar is one of the functions!
Yeah, unfortunately that's the cost of technology. In the shooting world we're not as exposed to the proplem of today's electronics being obsolete in 1-3 years, but that is likely the case with any electronics, including RF binos.

In addition to selling Zeiss, I also sell fishfinders (among other things). I can't tell you how many guys come up to me while I'm working an event in spring and say something to the effect of "I bought this 9" fishfinder last summer, and this spring you came out with a 10" fishfinder. I wish I had known you were going to come out with a new model." Well, there will always be a new model. If the technology didn't advance you would still be trying to find a roll of paper for the old graph fishfinders.

I think for long range shooting we might all be better off being back in those 'paper roll days' utilizing the basics, your brain and a knowledge base. Separate the men from the boys and save us a pile of cash on gadgets. We are in the beginning era of self driving cars and getting close to having self shooting guns where a computer tells you where to aim. Once the wind dope becomes calculated by laser/computer then the most consistent shooters will be the ones with the fattest wallets. Takes the competition out of competition. I guess its all good for the hunters though as there are now more of them than their quarry, which is learning to stay farther away from them!

Actually this is not true. The Bino reads ONLY the file in the root directory of the SD card. You can have multiple files on the SD say in a separate directory. You do have to have a computer to move them around but...
