Reworking my crowded gun safe

About a week ago, I read a post by Preacher that recommended Arrow Wood finish. Because I'm always looking for something better, I googled it and set about ordering some. I the process, I looked into their new products and ended up also ordering a 20 pac of their rifle rods for my gun safe. At about $3.75 per gun my thought was that I'd thown a lot more than that away before. In a nut shell they are easy to use and install and definitely creates more room over the original set up in my safe. I bought a 23 gun safe and seriously it didn't hold 16. I now have 20 in it with room for a few more with less chance of getting a scratch or ding. Pretty pleased so far and hopefully I still will be a year from now. Their web site is www.storemoreguns.com if anyone is interested. And no I don't make any $ on it.

What are they made of because if they are steel rods into a custom barrel it could do harm to the bore maybe.

Basic Features

•For use under any wooden shelf
â—¦Common applications - gun safes, cabinets, and closets
•Fits 22 caliber and larger
â—¦Also available in 17 caliber

•Utilize wasted space
•Increase accessibility

•Great for storing shot guns, double barrels, and guns with scopes.
•Rifle Rods are made of plastic material.•Made in the USA!

I have a set of these as well, and they are handy, and did increase the useable space in my safe, but... Its a pain in the a$$ to get to rifles in the back of the safe (not that it was ever easy, but now I think it is more tricky), and the plastic rods are pretty flexible for shorter rifles like 16" barrel AR15s and small 22lrs.

Rods are injection molded plastic which appears to be 6/6 nylon. Smooth and not abrasive. Yes, getting the back row is somewhat of a pain, but less than it was before.

I think that my solution for the shorties is to make a elevated end in the safe & all the shorties go in that area. Most of my back row are things that barely see light of day & probably should be sold off.

I used the two shelves that came with the safe. Put them on the floor on that side and it raised the butt almost 3 inches.

Certainly looks like an inexpensive alternative to laying out the bucks for a new safe. When I bought my "12" gun safe I quickly discovered that the manufacturer must have meant 12 blow guns. It handles six fairly well but the bump and rub factor is intolerable.
