Breaking into a gun safe?

The hinges on any high grade safe do nothing but allow you to open the door. Cut them all the way off or blow them away and the door is still staying shut.

Does cause a large number of the uninformed to waste a lot of time and make a lot of noise, both of which contribute to the high odds they will be caught.

Run of the mill gun safes (anything short of a vault as mentioned in a previous post) only stop those who happen across them on a random breaking and entering.

Anyone intent on getting your guns will come prepared and will get them.

I like the burgler bomb, or a simple OC grenade. Trip that instant hell and you can track the sorry thief by following the snot rope. Fills a room with a fog of fast discharge OC. Been there and it is just like getting your face shoved in the fryer at Mcdonalds. You wish your were dead, can't run away from your face and soon hate your own miserable existence. You can hardly breathe, can't see, struggle to walk and it lasts up to 40 minutes! add in a nanny cam recorder so you can watch it over and over (the cops will I promise!). Makes the fact you were violated a little easier to take. Put an alarm IN the safe and you get to have the clean-up crew come and find the mope crawling around in the yard blubbering, crying, slobbering and asking for help. Wait a day, then wipe room down with wet towels, good to go.
