Retirement

I was offered a package from a fortune 200 company that I couldn't pass up last June. Work has changed the last 5 years hiring from the outside to manage the company and now loaded with job jumping millennials. I don't think they will ever again have someone put in 30 years like I did. Getting married next month and my fiancé is only 57 so she has a few years to work and support me. LOL Worked on the house a good bit, went to the range and pool a lot. May help a friend at his brewery from time to time this winter.

I retired 4 years ago and moved to West Virginia to be able to spend time with my dad. He passed a year later. Now I play golf 3-4 days a week, shoot sporting clays one day a week and compete in F/Class, LR bench rest, and short range bench rest. Tuesday is my only day off and that is spent mowing and home stuff. I love retirement.

If you have enough money to do what you want, retirement can be a good thing.

if you don’t, you will get discouraged, depressed, turn into a couch potato, get fat, sick and die.

I’m 74, I am part of the ownership of a thriving Machine Shop business, and I have no plans to “retire”.

I love what I do. I like being in charge. I have a fear of being a “Usta”.

Most of us don't really retire, we just find something else to do, with better hours. After 40 years of captain
on ocean going tugs and a lot of that running anchors offshore I said piss on it. The last ten years were just not enjoyable. You know boats so you know what I mean.

I have been working 100% virtually since March of 2020. I had planned on retiring next July (2022). I have mentioned this many times to my coworkers and my company.

As many of my coworkers are returning to the office, I have been given the opportunity to continue to work 100% virtually. This will allow us to move anywhere in the country and setup our retirement home and my shop while still employed. The company benefits as they wanted me to stay on longer so it is a win win situation.

I hope to wind up somewhere that premits me to continue to shoot F-Class or some other discipline. So our search has broadened greatly. Not sure if that is a good thing or not. Time will tell.

Today I heard that I was retiring next year. Not unless I win the lottery lol. I am going to try all little bit of a different scheduling process and have not taken in much work recently because I am trying to get caught up but retirement is not in my future for a very very long time probably ever. Just FYI

Retirement is wonderful- shoot-load-sleep whenever you want. Do what you want when you want. Only downside is I really miss that check ($) each week.

After my divorce my retirement age moved up to 106.

If it is your choice to retire make sure you do so in the spring so there is plenty to do. Retiring in the fall gives you 5-6 months of nothing to do outdoors so you become a hermit.
I was retired because of bad back 24 years ago (age 45) they said I would be in wheel chair shortly, I'm still not, don't walk very well or for any distance but I walk.
I am currently recovering from bladder removal after a 4.5 year battle with cancer but I am here to talk about it.
It just isn't my time, the good Lord must have another cross for me to carry for a while. Only time will tell.

Worked on a customers car with a license plate frame that said "The Golden Years Can Kiss My A**". He asked me what I was laughing at? I pointed to the license frame and he told me, he retired and a couple months later his wife also retired. Both had BIG plans for their retirement till a month later his wife dropped dead.
Live every day like's it's your last, but have enough $$$ set aside to post bail.

One last bit of advice from me in case any of you are considering retirement, I haven't had a single day of vacation since I retired. I sure do miss those vacation days.

One BIG thing I LOVE about retirement? You run into someone on the street that you havn't seen for a long time, you can BS till you need to go home. No worries about "I got to get back to work".
Ran into a guy while the wife and I were out messing around. He remembered me working on his rig a few times. I mentioned being retired and he asked what I did now that I was retired? My reply? "Any damn thing I want and one of those things wasn't working on cars". The guy next to us damn near fell over laughing.
Retirement is what you make of it.
Havn't set an alarm for over 20 years, still wake up around 3:30 or before every morning, get on here to see how the rest of the world is getting by.

I retired in 1989 after 32 years on the job. I have been retired now for 32 years. I am very lucky. My pension has more increased 2.5 time what I received when I retired. I got really bored and took another good job and earned a second retirement. After attending the local community college in photography, one of my instructors aske me I I would be interested in doing weddings with him. After doing that for about five years I finally called it quits. And of course there is Social Security. I just turned 85 and my goal is to live to 102.

I've been officially retired for 7 years. When people say they don't know what they would do retired, I tell them what did they want to do when they were 12,13,14 years old, before life got in the way.

Best friend was a workaholic and IIRC, when a 30 something 20 years his junior was hired as office manager, he decided to retire. Unfortunately, he couldn't sit still after working hard for so long and after a year and a half of retirement, pulled a stupid and got burned pretty badly and passed from his injuries a few weeks later. I retired about 5 years ago and loving it. Get bored sometimes in the Winter, but usually finds something to do, even if its just read.
Still miss my "little brother".

Katie and I learned thru the small town gossip mill that we are swingers. I guess we should be flattered that people would think we’re capable of being so fun. We sure got a kick out of it. Anyway, enjoy your retirement and let me know when you make it to TX. Lol.
