" Results" TN Mid Range State Championship

Greetings fellow shooters,
Its that time of year again for Memphis TN to host the TN State Midrange Championships. We would like for you to join us in two days of fine Marksmanship at the Memphis Shooting Sports Assn just outside Memphis TN.
The Match Bulletin is attached and the quick run down of events are Sat. 25th of October squading starts at the old club house 0715 to 0815 Line goes hot at 0900 hours. Sat. for the sling shooters is Metallic sight day with 20 shots at 300,500 and 600. Fclass the same except we wont make you shoot with iron sights....Maybe. If there is enough interest and or time we will hold a two man team of 2 sighting shots and 20 shots for record for each shooter on the team directly after the first days match's at 600 yards. Directly after that is the same BBQ Dinner at the clubhouse we had the last couple of years. We can tell lies and give some great excusesfor the days shooting at this time so please dont miss it.
Sunday the 26th is Any Sight day for the Sling shooters, and F class shooters with the same course of Fire as Sat...Unlimited sighting shots and 20 shots for record at 300,500 and 600 yards.
More information is attached and we would like if if you could pass this around to your fellow shooters in your area. Typically we get around 60 to 70 shooters or so with some National Level hard holders. I understand that the Fclass nationals are at the same time this year so I expect the Fclass big dogs to be going to that instead. However they will be missing out on some damn fine vittles and one of the nicest 600 yard ranges in the USA that holds well over 100 National Records since we started this in 2008.

Please pass this around on your Distro list and or local clubs in your area. We would like to get an Idea of how many shooters we are going to get for the BBQ Dinner so if your planning on comming please just call or send an email with the number that are expecting to eat. Hate to run out of food.. Im sure you understand that logistical issue.

If you think your going to attend make sure you drop a Quick note telling how many plan to attend in your party so we can get the number right for the BBQ. Which by the way is wroth the trip by its self. Come on over and eat... I mean shoot with us.

Drive safe see you there.

So iam newbie what kinda of group would I have to shoot at 600 and say finish mid pack

You could shoot a half inch group at 600 and finish last if its not in the center of the target.

F-class isnt scored on group size.

If the wind is blowing mid pack is less about how your rifle shoots than how you read wind, and even at 600 yards you can catch 8s.

If the wind isn't blowing it is pretty much drop 2 or so in TR, clean in Open to win, drop 5 in TR or 2 in open to be in the middle somewhere.

My only F-Class experience with 300 yards is at Camp Perry. I don't think anyone dropped more than 3. In TR there were very few cleans.

Five hundred can be as bad as 600, and for me, I shoot way more 1000 yard matches than mid range, my problem is more often than not over holding for wind because at 600 it's worth about 1/3 what it is at 1000 with a 308.

You will do just fine. Score shooting (Fclass ) is a matter of adjusting for the wind. If you keep making the same mistakes then you fall behind pretty quick. Don't do that. Learn from your shots and go for the center as best you can determine from what you see on the flags compared to the target. Once you (connect) with this then you will know why it is so popular. Look for this.

Re: TN Mid Range State Championship

Expected wind for Saturday is 5 mph for Memphis. Federals ballistics chart has drift at 2.2 inches, so far it has been spot on for me shooting 168 gr federals. So since iam a newbie and have only shot at steel and no competitons just been having fun. I really do not understand the terms like drop 2 or drop three, I still relate to inches or moa

So iam thinking most guys are not shooting a whole lot below 1 moa at 600, or 6 inches. I feel like I could do a decent job in. 5 mph winds and I am bald and use my head to feel the wind and try to shoot when I feel it let up. The wind was at 4 mph the las time I shot shot and just about all my groups were at 8 inches or under and some of them close to 6.

I realize iam not going to be on the top 5 but I certainly do not want to be the name at the bottom either. So I guess my question is if I could shoot a 6 inch group in a 5 mph wind would that be fairly respectable or should I just stay at home. Been to the range 11 or 12 times and there is really not a lot of guys around here shooting that out to a 1000yds. Really just wanted to be around some good shooters to learn from and watch.

When they say "drop 2 or 3" they are referring to points. In other words, if you drop more than 3 points per day you will be middle of the pack. I think your last line sums it up...as that is the attitude to have in order to be successful down the road.

F-Open winner is?
I hope I'm spelling JD's last name correctly.
I believe Mr. J.D. McKeigney from Ms. with a score of 1199 77x.
I believe Alton Britt from Ms. shot overall high score in F/TR.

Have I got the right match? I was looking at the gentleman's posting above and he didn't mention either one of these names.
?????

Re: TN Mid Range State Championship

All names are correct. we give a award to the out of state AND the TN resident shooter as well.
