Rest box?

I have a Sinclair rest I just purchased and was wondering how do you transport it without it getting banged up.Im not gonna spend $200 on a Pelican case. Are there any other options other than building something? Thanks

ever think about one of those cordura/nylon tool bags? thats what my wife and i use, also has pockets for other gadgets i.e. glasses, ammo, ear protection, empty chamber indicator,etc.______treeman

barnabus: We probably have the same Sinclair front rest. I bought mine new 4 yrs ago, as the "All purpose" for $245. Never liked the top since it would not take a 3" wide forend, did not like the non-adjustable forend stop, I removed it), and needed to carry a long handled allen wrench to tighten the side plates. recently up-graded with their newly designed windage top, and all the "problems" have been corrected. Anyway, I started with the temporary idea of wrapping it in a heavy-duty old pillow case, and have never seen a need to change. No added weight and bulk, some protection from "bumps", dust & dirt free, looks as good as when new. I think one of the Air Force pilot helmet bags with the zipper closer, and handles,,available at a surplus store), would also work fine, and it is padded. I also cannot see adding more weight to a 17# front rest.

Here's how I lug mine around plus bags, pads and other gear.

Hope this helps.

Look at the Sinclair "Benchrest Travel Case",page 127, 2008A). It will hold your rest, rear bag and smaller extras. Not cheap at $99. I saw one of these at a match recently and fell in love with it. I will have one before next year.

At Target they have large hinged-top plastic boxes that will hold your rest flat, plus a rear back and lots of other gear. You can also use a Stanley mobile tool chest. Note, shown below is chest with SEB rest. One reader noted that its better not to turn the rest sideways so the sand doesn't shift in the bag. I think if you're just going from truck to bench that's not critical.

Has anyone tried fitting a Sinclair into the plastic case that Caldwell makes for their rest??

I can keep my Caldwell Rock Deluxe a rear bag and additional front bag inside. It costs around $30.
