Resizing New Lapua 30-06 brass down to 25-06

Tried this operation with one step down to .270 full length die and then the 25-06 and then straight to the 25-06 from the 30-06 but have a ring app. 1/8 of and inch from the neck/shoulder junction in the shoulder area that will not allow the case to chamber in my rifle. Neck wall thickness only increased from app. 16 to 17 thousands. Is there any solution to this issue that anyone could share with me?

Yep, turn the necks a couple thousands or so off and it should work. I made my first 25-06 cases out of LC Match 30-06 and was taught to turn necks before sizing down. Man that has been a long time ago. LOL

Cck OAL of cases and trim any that are too long. I made bunch of 25-06s out of 270s and 06s and had a few that were so long as to be too tight in the chamber when shot. It was a bad thing, way over pressure.

The loaded rounds neck diameter should not be larger then .290"( SAAMI) for a factory chamber. Even this is tighter then i would like.
The loaded ammo not chambering could be fat necks?

Another reason that they dont chamber- A special forming die is used at times . The form die sets the shoulder back a few thousands more then a standard full length die.

Brass has a memory, keeps springing back.

Thanks Guys for all the responses. I kept messing around (re-adjusting) my 25-06 die and different shell holders and got the cases to go in another 5 thousandths and was able to get a couple cases to chamber with a tight bolt turn. Still have the ring around the shoulder area but I think it will work O K. My new re-sized loaded round measures spot on at .288 which is 2 thousandths less than the Stan. (SAAMI) specs. at .290 (Thanks 243winxb) I will turn the necks while brass is in the 30-06 form just a tad before going further just for safety measures. I would like to keep the necks alittle thicker than what I've seen with my other Hornady brass as the loaded rounds are measuring .283 with it. Trimming is required no doubt.

Got the brass turned before sizing down to 25-06. (Cleaned it up lightly) Seated a bullet in an empty case and getting .2875. Re-sized brass looks much better as far as ring around the shoulder area is concerned. Not nearly as much. Thanks again for the comments. Please feel free to comment more.

Glad you got it worked out. You will love the 25-06. It is the deadliest caliber I have ever used on deer.

Yep all seems well. Still have a tight bolt close but I think it will be fine. I'm a fan of the 25-06 for many years as well. Just never had a chance to neck down any brass for it. Had a hankering to try the Lapua brass in this factory new Rem. 700 Long Range Rifle since it started out shooting one ragged hole with Hornady Brass. Noticed it has less "freebore" than any factory 25-06 I ever owned.

When I had my 25.06,the only correctly head stamped brass that was fired in it was from a 20 rd box of factory ammo that I'd bought, the rest I'd necked down from 30.06 or 270 as I had bags and bags full of once fired. Its good having a 70-80 friends at work that don't reload. Just lubed well when re-sizing. Didn't have any neck thickness issues with any of it,nothing blew up and deer died. All that you can ask & hope for.
No sale on the 270 stuff? Less of a step down. It works fine going from .308-.257 in one fell swoop.
