Reputable Gunsmiths/ Rifle Stock builders

This would be for an F- Open build.

I tried a few searches and didn't come up with much. How are folks finding a good quality smith, and stock maker? I understand word of mouth, but closest competition ranges aren't exactly close. The kids that work at scheels also claim the 'Gunsmith' title and to be honest I wouldn't trust them to chase threads with a tap let alone actually do any material removal. Is there a secret list somewhere I understand the superstars probably don't take on new clients because they are kept busy with regulars.

Go to the main home page and look at the left side of the page. There is a list of information.51E72B53-A2B2-4D98-BFB2-6DCBE0BAFEF7.png9EEE6A0E-749D-4A0E-A023-EEFA8E055773.png

Other than a little time, a visit to a local smith won't cost you a dime. If he doesn't have an example of his work for you to examine then you can move along.

What are you looking for? It’s a good idea to mention it. Somebody here may have it sitting in a safe, gathering dust.
I have a few I bought when I thought I had all the time in the world.

Depends on what style stock you are looking for. Most that make in the "classic" style are busy, but ya' never know.
F- class Open stock. I know you can order from mcmillian and kelbly, but I figured for the expense and wait time, might as well get a nice custom wood stock made.

Sorry, my mistake. F- class build. I'll edit original post.

It’s all good! 308? Other?
Full on custom action and such?
Post your “dream gun” and see what might pop up!

Dream gun? Hmmm, not sure yet, this will be my first custom. Calling kelblys this week to see about a Panda SA. Then I need to decide or figure out when a who has barrel blanks available. Around me there are a couple 600yd competition ranges within an hour our 2. So I'm try to decide if I should just stick with a 6mm variant or go with the .284 for longer stuff. I've messaged x-ring a few times, probably just need to call and see if I can talk to someone.
