Reproducing a Managed Recoil Round

I have a female shooter who wants to get behind a bigger cartridge but the recoil is prohibitive. I see Remington has the Managed Recoil rounds but they are sold out around here and online. Anyone have an idea what powder they use or a method to reproduce these rounds myself. I am specifically looking at 30-06, 308, and 30-30.

You'll find that H4895 is very forgiving with the development of reduced loads. I've used it in all the Cals you listed and they work great.

IMR 4895 and 125 Sierra Pro-Hunters worked very well for me as far as accuracy and reduced recoil out of my 308.

However I've never shot a deer with this load so I don't know how it performs on game. I did some reduced load development with this combo for target practice two winters ago to past the time. My groups at 100 yards were in the .5 to .7 range out of a sporter weight barrel. It was a joy to shoot.

My deer load for the 308 WInchester is 46 grs IMR 4895 with 125 Nosler ballistic tips and it runs right at 3000 fps. It has about half the recoil as a full 150 gr load. This is a real deer killing combo. I have killed deer out to a little over 300 yards and this bullet is great on deer. At 3000 fps muzzle velocity this bullet usually will not exit a deer that is shot in a shoulder until past about 150 yards but usually is found just under the hide on the off side shoulder. I have killed deer with the 125 Ballistic tip out of my 30-30AI Contender 14" barrel pistol starting out at 2670 fps and it just plain hammers deer and out of 7 deer shot from 30 to 118 yards all bullets have exited even going through both shoulders with about a quarter size hole. The 125 ballistic tip is a GAME bullet not a VARMINT bullet so have confidence that it will do the job on a deer as long as you keep impact velocity under 3000 fps.

When I read 2506's post I thought maybe I had already responded to this thread. I use the exact same load in my 308's. One other thing to check on for a reduced recoil round is at Cabela's. They had Hornady load some reduced recoil ammo in '06 & 308 with their excellent 125 SST bullets @ about 2700 fps. Good luck with it; nothing better than introducing someone new to what you love.

I use H4895 reduced loads for my old military guns. It makes them alot more pleasant to shoot, and groups just fine out to 200 yds. 44gr with 147 FMJBT for my 1903, and only 37gr for my enfield.

You just convinced me to give this a try next season - I like to shoot a lot before deer season but I don't like getting pounded in the shoulder. I was always apprehensive because we have some large white tails here in eastern PA. The last two I shot field dressed at 175 and 158 lbs respectively.
