report from central Idaho -

CT10ring i started exploring the west well over fifty years ago and haven't even made a dent in it. It will be the best part of your life moving out here. And very likely you may end up knowing the secret of happiness, living where people really mean it when they say,... hello, how are you.
Here the problems of the world ends at the pavement, and happiness starts. (however if your not careful you could end up like me, ... the guy walking down the road or trail with that big silly grin on his face all the time.)

You're mean! Rubbing it in, aye. I'm loading my travel trailer up and my wife and I are coming to live on your property, JK, lol.

I have a bad neighbor! He turned his cabin into a vacation rental. Yesterday one of his renters decided he'd let his pet wolf breed loose, it comes over and scares my dog - good thing my dog is a wimp because he'd been torn up - anyway that wolf chased my chicken up the hill and chomped it to death. What does the F'in owner say, he says there's no blood so my dog didn't kill your chicken, in spite of piles of feathers and a dead chicken laying right there, though he hearing the ruckus and all, with me yelling come get your damn dog!!!!, and upon arrival seeing the dog trying to get back into the pen to claim his kill. That pissed me off!!!

Then the F'er says we're even because his dog cut his foot on my property. And now wants to take pictures of the property to build his case. Nope, get off my property now. I'm truly astounded by this??!!

I called the police, as usual nothing came of the debacle, although he saw through their posturing lies. Yeah right, as if I'm going to hire a lawyer to pursue legal action over a chicken.

Afterwards I was thinking I should have just got my rifle and shot the damn dog!

It's the mentality of the "you know that type of mindset the younger generations have". They embrace the wrong and abhor the right, all they care about is that they do what ever they have to do to win. It's evil. (not saying all young people are that seethingly selfish)

I want a nice neighbor! Anyway, I'm a nice guy, I'm sure we'll get along great, we'll see you sometime tomorrow, lol. Can I expect to stay until I can buy some land? JK of course, I needed self imposed humor and to laugh a little today!

steve123, aside from the shitty neighbor how is living in the Flagstaff area ? Weather ? Hunting/Fishing ? Political climate etc..
Thanks, Ksteel.

  • ha! bring some longjohns! not trying to be a braggart, not like I invented Idaho. or know much.
  • give a heads up before you pull in the driveway.
  • yeah, I'd say your neighbor needs a reality check.
  • hire a lawyer to pursue legal action over a chicken. gave me a laugh.
  • not sure why the bullet points.

you nailed it. not that there aren't amazing places all over the US & people. of course there are. just a new experience for me. been traveling west for years, also.

I'm next door in central Orygun....had a herd of mule deer in my front yard this morning. They left and headed east.....to Idaho I'm sure. If more folks from Cali keep coming here, I'll be right behind them.

It's wonderful in ways. I'll bounce back and forth between the good and the bad.

Few flying insects is one thing I appreciate the most. It's very rare to get bit up. I sleep outside in my lazy boy easy chair, up on the hill in the summer, under our makeshift porch. Yes it's hillbilly but hey it's comfy, and my wife isn't snoring in my ear, lol.

Most of the time it's clear clean air, unless the FS is letting their controlled burning get out of control which is becoming more common. Even though wind is in the forecast they'll do it anyway. Alright so I won't comment further on that subject.

Not hardly any pollution, and the water is tasty. Very rarely it gets up to 100 and just as rarely below -10. It hasn't been to zero yet this year.

Largest Ponderosa stand on earth supposedly, big tall tree's everywhere. Really nice transition country too, I live in this transition zone. I have oak, shaggy juniper, pinion pine, and all sizes of ponderosa pine on my property.

It gets nice and green when we get a lot of snow or a good monsoon season. Otherwise welcome to the arid northern region of AZ.

Yep plenty of game around here or close by, elk, mule deer, coues whitetail, pretty much everything but moose and grizzly. No chucks or beldings around though, there are prairie dogs if you look hard enough.

Not far from us are some lakes and steams. Lake Mary, our main lake, is a muddy ugly lake. But lake Powell is 2.5 hours away and the White mountains the same distance away have nice lakes. Oak Creek canyon is 15 minutes away and Sedona half hour.

Two hours from Phoenix.

It's a college town, there are a lot of smart but staggeringly stupid people, that make my dog look intelligent. No lack of Commy Faggot liberals, I know that sounds mean and judgmental but I don't abide the type and that's what I hate about Flagstaff. But there are plenty of nice people still here.

I vacation in Idaho, Wyoming, Utah and Montana. I crave rural living and people that don't suck!

Are you overstating the low temp a bit or did you mean to say +25, if not perhaps you need a new thermometer. I am less than 15 miles from you and it is +20 here this morning for a low, I just checked Stanley which is generally the coldest temp in the area and it is +25 there.
I have lived here for decades and while East Fork country may get cold I have never seen the big difference that you are stating.

ah, + 25, whoops. that's a dash. balmy

Winter in Stanley. Took our snowmobiles into Yellow Pine for a weekend of drinking and shenanigans. That was a cold ride, but helmets actually are a good thing for warming.

The UPS driver - very cool gal -- lets me know the temp in Stanley is always much colder.
Shenanigans + PLUS drinking?!
You are busted.
Sounds like naval aviator speak- shenanigans.
Here's a vid for you- don't know you, but bet you'd like this.
tip of the spear.

Probably nervous because there is no bingo field! The pilots get pretty tense after 2 passes knowing that they have to get aboard makes for a tight sphincter muscle! Spent 22 years working on the parachutes in those ejection seats, plus all the pilots equipment.

see, this is a shooting thread. :) looking for flat spots to shoot prone at longer ranges.
even shot rifle as well. just to check zero. lotta coyote tracks. absolutely calm.

CT10ring, you will know your at home when your out hunting or just wandering around and when you hear a rig, (which could be five miles away) and you think to yourself, boy it's getting crowded around here!
