Rental house shack

Wow, guess I'm guilty of moving to a place that offers wide open spaces, forested mountains, high desert with excellent mule deer and elk hunting. Yup, I'm guilty of moving to prime huntng grounds.

I moved to where I am now just for the hunting, and it could be called 'premium'. Not my fault many are stuck in crowded places where you can't see to the next ridgeline and not be allowed to hunt with a rifle. Not my fault. Besides, the humidity in the east slays me, reminds me of Vietnam, and I didn't like it there either.

No judgement here, we all live where we choose. I chose a place that I can 'wander' about all day and not see another human. So I moved to a place that has good hunting, so shoot me if I don't want to sit on my ass all day is some shack waiting for a deer.

Now I'll leave and head out to "the rat patch" to have more fun. Have a great Memorial Day! :)

Corn is legal in SC.. And, yes it was for deer.. No chickens.. haha... I found empty corn cobs in a clearing in the woods about 60 yards in the woods.. He did break several laws.. ( If he actually did harvest a deer / not sure he did) Rules State: Must be 10' off ground when hunting within 300 yards of a residence..

That guy must have been a barbarian !!
No lime with that Corona?

Come on guys he's a real hunter, didn't you notice the bag of corn on the floor of the shack, I'll bet he wasn't feeding chickens. BTW I would never hunt in that situation but the reply to the western hunter comment was spot on.
Personally - I was looking at the Corona bottle.

Hey my last buck, a 140 class 8 point, I shot from the bed of an old abandoned dump truck. He bedded in a swamp thicket, trying to get to him was out of the question and no trees for a climbing stand so I sawed my way through the vines covering the truck and was able to be there when he came out at dusk.
Sometimes its more difficult and just as much hunting to know where to "sit on your ass" than it is just walking around looking for game.
Have a great Memorial Day you to.

Yes Mark, UpState deer hunting in South Carolina is/was different from the Low Country.. As an Aiken County resident l am on the dividing line tween the two.. l grew up hunting deer behind a pack of dogs with a shotgun in Charleston. 0nly people that had rifles were Army men and cowboys... Still hunting was hazardous to your health in the Low Country... Mosquitoes are big enough to carry you away.. Lost a couple friends that way in my youth;-)... Up until maybe 2015 there was NO bag limit on deer in the SC Low Country.. That Area still has the longest season in the USA. Aug15-Jan1.. lt had been that way since the beginning of time... Other parts of the country had little or no deer or season by the late 40s... They had ALL been killed off.. Not so in Lower SC.. We/They cant kill them all, even tho many have/had tried in the past... Not uncommon for a Low Country hunter to kill 10/15 deer a year.. That area it covered in swamps, river bottoms that are almost impenetrable. ln the Low Country it is/was legal to put out corn. Not so in UpState. Low Country corn is called FOOD. UpState corn is/was BAIT... Almost like TWO different countries!! Anyway things finally changed about 5 yrs ago to appease the UpState boys... The whole state is ALMOST the same now... Politics and money ruled the day... You now have to buy TAGS for every deer kill. Dogs and corn are still legal in the Low Country.. A 'NONO' for UpState... No worry for me tho. l have deer hunted once in the past 10yrs... 3 times since the early 90s... That's when l DISCOVERED
prairie dogs.. l'd rather SHOOT prairie dogs than hunt deer on ANY DAY!!

btw... MOST Low Country farmers class deer like mosguitoes and snakes. They want them all dead

Mark, They restocked the UpCountry back in the 50s with Northern Whitetail. Very few if any in the Low Country.. Deer had overrun the Savannah River Site so much its rumored the Govt brought in coyotes by the trailer load and released them... From the perimeter gates to the inner plant work areas is a buffer of app 20 miles... l dont remember seeing hardly a day go by without deer hit on the road... SRS is almost half million acres or 450sq mi... Most work injuries were caused by deer/auto hits... The farmers and timber companies have been hurt really bad in the Low Country by the new laws... No longer do the rich dog hunters from Fla come up and pay$20-$30 an acre for a deer `lease on private land... Local motels/Restaurants have been hurt too in towns like Barnwell, Allendale, Walterboro, Denmark...
First deer club l joined was outside Summerville, SC in 1970... We leased 15000 acres from WESTVACO paper co @17cents an acre. 0ur dues were $75 per year. The lease money paid the taxes on the land.
A friend owns Cowden Plantation nearJackson SC... 12000 acres bounded by Audabon, Savannah River, SRS and Cracker NECK... Dues are $5000 yr..;-(
5 grand will buy lots of PD ammo/trips.

Government bringing coyotes?? No Way.. They wouldn't do such a thing... haha..
Remember when the really smart folks with DOT planted Crimson Clover and wild flowers along the sides of the interstate and in the medians? Well guess what just loves Crimson Clover??? Shall I say more? Wander if State Farm ( insurance lobby) said anything?
I couldn't do the $5000 thing.. I have a buddy that did it.. They had big deer but it was mostly a social thing.. We have so many deer around its crazy.. They are getting pushed out everywhere. This fall should be darn good "IF" all goes well with weather.. I've been out putting minerals out and will get on food plots late September..
Cant wait to make some dogs fly soon..

Being from Nevada, I got a BIG FAT surprise when trying to hunt Northern Minnesota by stalking (wandering around). It was a rare place when you could see 100 yds. Most of the deer hung out in 20-30 ft. visibility. They could hear or smell you long before you could get a shot. Stand hunting was a necessity there.
So, I changed the rules for me. I hunted in the Handgun/Shotgun areas with a 7mm TCU! Wide open fields that no way were you going to put a slug in a deer from 300 yds. That TCU will do it. I never harvested a deer with it but took a few coyotes and rabbits at those ranges.:);)
