Removing Tempilaq off case after annealing

Just wondering the best way to remove tempilaq off the case body after annealing.

Sometimes the tempilaq leaves a hard deposit that is hard to remove even with rubbing alcohol, paint thinners etc. I have also used fine steel wool. Must be a better way.....

I use an old 308 case to scrape it off with. Use the neck of the 308 case 90 deg to your annealed case. Does not scratch the brass, and is pretty simple to do. ( 308 case, because it is comfortable to hold..)

Use old throw away casess to determine your time in the flame. Use them over and over again if you need to and that way you don't need to dirty up your useable casses.

What hedditch said. Use your cull or old brass. Otherwise I should think it would need a trip through the polisher.

A damp cloth works with the 475F, but you have got to be quick.

does anyone know if an ultrasonic cleaner will take it off? I would imagine it would (regardless of the type of liquid used).

That would be nice... anneal, quench, ultrasonic clean, then dry. That way you wouldn't have to get the cases wet twice, and dry them twice, before sizing.

91% isopropyl (available at most drugstores) or acetone works if it's cooled and hardened.

Thanks all, the scraping technique works pretty well, tried it today. The isopropyl alcohol option is OK too but I find works only when the tempilaq is in small patches.

I seem to recall lacquer thinner working pretty well (i.e Tempi-Laq)... but nowadays I keep a zip-loc baggie with five or more old/worn-out cases dedicated for annealing setup, with a card in the baggie noting them as such. Anymore, I'm not worried much about the temp getting too much at any one spot or travelling too far down the case... I use the cases to check for the color change down the neck/shoulder area, and polish them up w/ steel wool nice n shiny before each use.
