Removed the ejector pin

I removed the ejector pin from my HOWA 1500 .308 bolt. It was becoming a PITA removing/resetting it every time I am checking a new bullet seating/finding the lands process.

My question, and I think what the answer is.

Besides the bolt not ejecting the fired case, is there any other issue?

Thanks for your replies.

I just went through this twice this weekend with a new barrel and starting some loads. I thought about the same thing or trimming the spring to have a lot less pressure.
In the end I decided to keep as is ... is there a fixture that will make this easier to install (other than a bench block)?
The worst part is keeping the plunger depressed while trying to align the split pin, hole, tool all while keeping pressure on the plunger (I use an empty case to depress) and using a hammer in the other hand!!

I got it down to about two or three minutes, but man it would be so much easier with a third hand.

Start the pin, put a case in there and hold the bolt and case with one hand, one little tap on the pin and you should be able to release the case then lay the bolt down and put the pin in the rest of the way

That's exactly what I ended up doing ... no need to remove the pin all the way, actually. Just got hard to hold onto the bolt (or secure it on the bench), the case holding down the plunger, the punch and the hammer all at the same time.

Here is a link to the ejector tool I made.

That would certainly make things easier, but when I saw it it reminded me of using an abacus instead of a calculator!

The retaining pin comes out easy. I think the ejector pin is catawampus. I have to grab it by a small sharp diagonal cutter really hard then pull it out. It still slips.
So I just took out the ejector pin.

I will call HOWA tomorrow see if I can buy a new set.

I didn't make the one in the original post. Mine was fashioned out of a BFA. $0.00 invested, just some time.

I figured that it wouldn't be an issue but wanted to asked the community.

I will run it like this. If turns out to a nuisance then I will reinstall it.

Yes, sometimes it seems you need a third hand. In the past, I have driven a nail with a large head into the side of my loading bench. Pushing against the ejector with the nail head, I finish by softly tapping the pin the rest of the way. I have also drilled a hole in the side of the bench and driven an old case into the hole. Then proceed as with the nail. Using the case works best for me. The nail also works except the round head of the ejector is prone to slipping off the nail head. I've done it this way for many years and it takes less than a minute to complete the procedure with just 2 hands!

You can put an old case in a vise and do it pretty easy too. I made a tool similar to the sinclair one with multiple boltface inserts
