Remington Reaches $73 Million Settlement

I feel that Remington, by settling, failed to live up to many obligations...to the industry, to sportsmen, the second amendment, lovers of liberty, and more.

I lived through a similar situation in a different industry and to make it short, the financial expedient of settling rather than defending against a law suit soon contributed to the collapse of a company and changed an entire industry. I believe what Remington has done has far greater ramifications towards things of much greater importance.

I'm no lawyer but I did hear one on the radio :) and he said, because this was a settlement and not the conclusion of a trial, no real legal precedent is set to establish doctrine going forward...or something like that...but I say you can sure bet a precedent has been set in that Remington and by extension the industry has been identified as a soft target. This is what I was alluding to in my previous post concerning a different industry.

What a lot of folks fail to realize is once an attorney puts a lawsuit in motion against any individual or company with liability insurance the defendant is pretty much along for the ride. From that point on it's two different legal teams milking it for all they can at the expense of an insurance company.

As a defendant you fight for what you know is right until they finally have you beat down to hoping they settle within the limits of your coverage. Unless of course you have the resources to see it all the way through in a court of law and can live with the outcome either way.

I've got some experience here.

Wasn’t the whole suit was based on Remington advertising their rifles as “best killing machine”? Dumb advertising by Remington and opened themselves to litigation as they’re literally advertising their product to kill which is what happened at Sandy Hook.
