Remington Nylon 66

Uncles Nylon 66 was the first "rifle" I ever shot. And there began a lifelong lunacy with shootin' chit :) The way that lil baby digested any/all matter of short, long and long rifle cases, in any order, dropped down the tube magazine. Heck, I remember the lovely smell of all those spent rounds ejecting while plinking with glee...

Will always have a fondness for that kooky Nylon 66 rimfire!!!

Centershot, I hope the one you found brings you back the same enjoyment...best of luck!!!

Sold mine to a buddy that has since past. I have a model 77 10 round mag fed. I bought my son a model 10 single shot at a yard sale when he was eight. He is now 36.

If I remember it right, one sold here for $4 or 500 about 7 months ago. I almost put mine on the block for that! Almost....

I can remember pressing my snotty nose as a kid against P D Malloch's shop window sometime in the early 60s (?) looking at a display of these rifles showing all the colour variants. (I liked the deep blue IIRC. Malloch's was the classiest local fishing and shooting shot in my home town of Perth, Scotland back then.) Never shot one though, and I don't know how common they were in the UK. When I did some work for my local gunshop some years back a heavily rusted brown one was taken in - a complete junker - and that's the only time I ever handled one.

This thread jogged my memory about a feature in Guns Digest annual of many years ago about Remington commissioning a trick shooter to shoot small wooden blocks thrown up into the air with Nylon 66s as a PR stunt. A quick use of Google and hey presto, here we are - 100,004 hits from 100,010 2.5-inch square blocks thrown up by one Tom Frye in a 13 day marathon shoot using three rifles.

.......... and the Nylon 66 has its own fan website too, apparently!

PS I like the touch of Remington putting a block into new rifles' boxes.

That block busting marathon was used as a basis for an ad that Remington placed in "Boy's Life" magazine when the rifles came out. Last year I reassembled one of the lever action variety from a cigar box of parts. A friend inherited it from his dad and took it apart to "clean and oil" it years ago. Lost the magazine tube , the rear sight and the ring that goes around the barrel that the stock screw goes in. Found replacement parts and it is now in use.

I saved my cuttin corn outta beans money and bought one, it was my first 22. Regrettably I missed too many squirrels with it and sent it down the road. Ended up with a Winchester 74 22 short and fell in love with it, back in the day.
