The flyer in the left hand corner of the cluster was a 70gr SMK not an 87gr VMax like the others. They were leftovers from my 10"t 6br.

The other big thing, the firing pin only has .125" lock time on the whole shebang. Standard factory Rem's have about .250". I was afraid that with .032" protrusion and .125" pin travel there wouldn't be enough force to detonate the primer, I was wrong. Even the 450's ignited without a hitch.

How does it wind up with only .125" of fp fall?

My bet is the front of the pin still needs work to get proper travel with the Savage bolt head. The taper needs to be removed down to a diameter of .125" and the front of the spring shoulder moved back ~.145" give or take depending on the length of the original pin. Moving the spring shoulder back will recover the lost pin fall. Fit the nose of the pin to pin hole in bolt head and shorten nose of pin for proper pin protrusion.

Note: You can't (most likely anyway) move the spring shoulder back on two piece pins.

The firing pin collar stops it from the other .125" travel. I've run 100rds through the rifle without a hitch. The .125" pin fall is staying.
For the record, i turned and ground the pin, there is no taper beyond the collar.

It's been a while but if IIRC, I turn the taper from the pin ahead of the shoulder, drill out the back of the bolt head and shorten the back of the bol head.

You are asking for problems with .125" pin fall. Just because it goes bang does not mean you have consistent ignition. Watch for fliers. I'd get that back to .250".

I'm not doubting you're experience and will for sure watch the for the fliers, but over the last 100rds aside from the 400yds group all test shots @ 100 could fit into a 1" circle. I'm sticking with the .125" until something proves otherwise.

That primer indentation on the right is very shallow and is almost certainly caused by the lack of fall resulting in inconsistent ignition. I'd figure out a way to get more fall.
