Remington factory 308 barrels - 5R worth it?

I sure like mine, it shoots almost everything well but really likes the 175MK & 178A-Max. It is the most consistent factory rifle I have ever owned.

My shooting buddy has one, and it shoots 175-178gr bullets great out to 1100yd using a moderate load of 4895. I'm always impressed with it vs my 6.5 custom.

5R is all i shoot. The design just makes sense to me. I think Styer was the first or one of the first that used Obermeyer rifling. Anyone wanna chime in??

I bought a Tenth Anniversary 5R Stainless 308 and love it. It’s a shooter. I liked it so much, I bought one in 223 and got another shooter.

I purchased a Remington M700 Long Range in .30-06 last year and am very happy with it. Have your friend pay for the model with the better stock and buy either the 5r barrel or a 1/10 twist.

The SPS stocks are literally junk. Don't buy that model unless you intend to throw the stock away.

I paid a little over $725 for that rifle, if they sell a .308 in their Long Range series I say buy. I think the may only sell LA in that rifle. Any Police model would be a good bet. I prefer 24" barrels, but a 20" will work fine inside of 700 yards.

Met a guy at the range last month shooting a brand-new "all black" 700 308 that he bought for a donor and decided to shoot. No break-in just shooting a couple of boxes of cheap 308 green & yellow 150 grain stuff and getting 1/2-in, 3-shot groups with a plain-jane nikon 3-9. Impressed the sh-t out of me.

I agree. I'm steering him to one of the 24 inch police models with the HS stock. If he has a bit more coin, I saw the Remington "PCR". It actually looks like a great deal in that it has a customizable chassis stock, Magpul PRS stock, the 5R barrel and a "tactical" type bolt knob. And it comes with a scope base, all for about $950 if available.
