Remington 788 torque?

Does anyone know the torque specs for the action to stock screws on a Remington788? If it matters it's chambered in .308..
Thanks in advance,
Shawn

I got a SH 780 cheap and it horizontal strung because you couldn't tighten the main action screw properly without it fouling against a bolt lug. I've never had the chance to inspect another so I don't know if the screw was the wrong one or there was some sleeve or something missing, but it was too long. Filed a mm or 2 off it, tightened it good and snug and it now shoots real good for a cheap rifle.
The 700 actions do have a torque spec, IIRC it's listed in the manual. I guess 780's and 788 have it listed to but I never downloaded one to check.

You could also add a washer between the trigger guard and stock to increase the distance for that action screw.

Usually action screws should be torqued to 65 in-lbs. NOTE : INCH-LBS NOT FT-LBS.

I once called Illion custom shop regarding the torque on a 40XB rangemaster. I Quote "Mr. F, just put that action in and tighten those screws with a flathead screw driver till they are good and snug. Go shoot it. If it don't shoot, call me back. But it was nice talking to you this once." So I did. and it was not until about 12 years later when the gun started to vertical string that I re-snugged the action screws. It has been about 10 years since...and she still shoots great. I never called Remington back. The old guy there was right.
