Remington 788 22-250 Re-Barrel

A .308 size cartridge won’t work. The 788 22-250 action is too short. Take my word on this.

Must use the same action as 30-30 & 44 mag then, correct?

Remington made the 788 action in 3 lengths. The "short" action was .44 Mag only. The "long" action was used for .222, .223, 22-250 and 30-30. The "extra long" action was used for .243, 7mm-08, 6mm Rem. and .308.

Since the rifle has sentimental value you might think about a take off 22 250 788 barrel in good shape to install. Most smiths doing rebarrel work usually have 5 gal buckets full of take off barrels some like new. Someplace there is a as new barrel sitting, just run an ad up in the classifieds.
