Remington 783: Any Potential?

When you make them LFRE do you just open up the left side as needed and do you weld in a top bridge for strength ? Thanks

Just open up the left side . The 783 has a small ejection port similar to the Rem 788 . It has plenty of beef in center .

yes I like the 783 put a oversized bolt knob on...my factory 243 shoot under a inch with factory loads..

Per the Op's question. For an interesting project, how about converting a 783 7mm Mag to a 257 Weatherby? Would the magazine follower work properly?

They are available in 7 mm mag and that mag should work . I've got a 300 win mag and 264 in the action and it feeds fine .

I bought a 783 in .243 during Christmas Sale and as I recalled I paid about 280.00 for it. Re-barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor using a Wilson Barrel and a Boyd's stock. Stock came with trigger guard and it shot very well. Accumulated too dang many CM's and re-chambered the 783 to 6.5 Grendel using new bolt head from PTG. Shoots extremely well and is a lot of fun to shoot. Did trigger re-work using slightly lighter spring and the trigger is now at 24 ounces. These are good project actions and when I put the action in the lathe to do some squaring up...............it was already square, bolt face good (both of them) and lugs nicely engaged. I'm always on the look out for another in long action at the pawn shops and gun stores I visit. Great project action and maybe someday a trigger company will make a nice aftermarket trigger. Probably a long off as original trigger can be dealt with OK.
