Wouldn't that be nice! Although, the price you would pay may not beOrder me up a 721F, no make that two; in that vintage 30 Holland's Super caliber. I'll scope them both, load test, then stick them in the safe between my OM 70 and the FN Mauser custom 300 and 375 H&H's.
I believe I have a few pieces of Brass with that designation on the base.Wouldn't that be nice! Although, the price you would pay may not be. Holland's Super 30, the correct name for the cartridge, you are showing your age!

They had gun stores in Phoenix in 1885?My Rem722 story: Remington commercialized the 7mm08 around 1980 and I really wanted one. Around 1885 I was at a gun show in Phoenix and found a all original 722 in 257 Roberts for less that $100 , it was in rough shape, stock banged up pretty bad and the barrel had been rusted at one time. It was well used. Serial # said it was mfg in 1948. Someone had used the shit out of it, probably a kid that was now an old man, probably bounced around in his pickup cab for year.
I bought it and ordered a stainless Douglas 20" match barrel chambered in 7mm08. Had a local gunsmith install the barrel, go over the action, and blacken it with some process that I don't remember. I bedded it in a Lee Six synthetic stock, installed a Leupold Vx1 2-7 scope and took it hunting. I'm still using it. Both my sons used it for their early deer and elk hunts, and now my 10yo grandson will be using it this year. I really like the straight bolt handle with the big smooth ball handle. Only upgrade I've done to it since then is have Kampfeld Custom install a new extractor as the old one was about to fall out. Still a sweet shooting rifle that has take more deer and elk than I can count along with a few antelope, bear, and coyotes.
Of course, weren't you around then also? They had gun stores in Phoenix in 1885?
Yes Sir! We are all guilty.Of course, weren't you around then also?
WTF..........I thought I had edited that out? I meant 1886! Oh well when you're as old as me you do make a mistake once in a while.
Pictures!I have aa first year 722 .222, a B grade .222 and a 222 Mag. Remington made a B Grade 722 for a very short time and is different than the BDL. There is a B stamped or pencil egraved (Rem did both) after 722 on the receiver. Fancier wood is all. Nice rifles.
That is a special rifle indeed. The stock is surely an upgrade. What scope is it?I'm lucky to have Mike Walker's personal deer rifle. It is a 722 in 257 Roberts. It has the factory hinged floor plate.
It is a Lyman Alaskan 1 1/2X. The glass is great, but not enough power for my 82 yr old eyes. That is a special rifle indeed. The stock is surely an upgrade. What scope is it?
You are in the same condition as I am, only 6 years younger and free of macular degeneration. I need good light, well rested eyes, and a high quality unclluttered lens.It is a Lyman Alaskan 1 1/2X. The glass is great, but not enough power for my 82 yr old eyes.
Thanks Bill. I do have macular degeneration, but it is moving very slow. I do need more light. You are in the same condition as I am, only 6 years younger and free of macular degeneration. I need good light, well rested eyes, and a high quality unclluttered lens.
Good luck. I appreciate reading your posts, articulate and founded on experienced. Keep them coming.
Bill
My only advice is to have a very well trained retinal specialist follow you on a frequent basis. I had that when I suddenly lost sight in my left eye 2 years ago. Imnediate treatment has me seeing at 20/60 and stable in that eye now. Thanks Bill. I do have macular degeneration, but it is moving very slow. I do need more light.
