Remington 700P trigger replacement

Just dropped my 700P off at the gunsmith. Guy has many years experience working on and building guns for benchrest guys, state police, x military snipers and regular hunters from Alaska to Florida. Im wanting the trigger pull lowered. He said he has to look at the trigger first. He said some are adjustable and some are not. He said some have welded pieces and if so it will have to be replaced. He recommended a Timney trigger. He said they install perfectly in 700's. I told him I wanted a Jewel just because I hear they are the best. He said he will call me when he finds out if it needs replaced or not and he will have prices for a Timney and Jewel trigger replacement. Im just varmint hunting and target shooting with this gun. No competition shooting. I really don't want to spend a bunch of money on just a trigger too. If this trigger needs replaced should I go with the Timney like he suggested or Jewel? Is there really a big difference between the 2?

B.S.
An OEM Rem trigger group of pre 2006 or post 2006 X Mark can be adjusted & nothting is welded to prevent it.
Pick up your rifle from the hack 'smith.

Install a Jewell as there is no comparison to a Timney,Jard or Rifle Basix

The Xmark trigger is garbage. I agree with the Timney. I've put those in like 5 or 6 Rem 700s.

The Old Rem trigger can be adjusted well. But the Xmark is very inconsistent if you can get it to come down at all.

No experience with the Jewel, but the Timney is robust, reliable, and consistent.... and a piece of cake to instal.

I did more research and another guy on a different forum had 2 700 P's. 1 regular P and the other was a P ltr. He said he adjusted the ltr trigger but the regular p he couldn't. He said it has a few parts that was welded together so he just replaced the whole trigger. I have zero experience working on guns so im not gonna go taking it apart. I will just let the smith change it out with a new trigger. Not sure which brand yet. Depends on his quote on the 2 triggers. If the Timney is alot cheaper i will go with it. If they r around the same price i will go with the Jewel because its known as the best.

The OEM pre 2006 std trigger group screws are sealed w/ clear finger nail polish.
The OEM post 2006 X Mark trigger group 1/16" allen head screws have Loc Tite in the threads & are sealed w/ clear finger nail polish.
Nothing is WELDED together.
If you choose the $150 Timney you'll get what you paid for,an aluminum housing POS.
If you choose the $225 Jewell you'll get a S/S 3 lever trigger group w/ safety/bolt release.
There are a couple 2 stage units available, that retail for approximately 1.5X the cost of a Jewell.
