Remington 700 Varmint 7mm-08 questions

Just picked up one of these guns last night at a local show. Did they make many of these? First one I have seen. Any loading help for this caliber for those of you that might shoot this caliber? Anything appreciated. Thanks

they made them in the original 700BDL varmint gun, with the walnut stock. they also built them for a couple of years in the 700VLS set up,varmint, laminated stock, blued). it was a good find, they 7-08 in a varmint gun usually doesn't stick around long. I have the light varmint, stainless fluted, synthetic model. they seem to be scarce as well. it is a very good round. i can pm the load info i have. i don't think i have shot it across a chronograph yet, but if i have i will give you that as well. which model is yours?

It is blued, non-fluted barrel 24' long, but the stock was replaced with a custom thumbhole stock, so unsure of what the origional configuration was. Any load data would be appreciated. Thanks

what are you looking to accomplish with this rifle varmint hunting, long range deer, bench shooting ? do you have a bullet weight in mind ?

The 700 Varmint in that caliber has been a favorite in high power silhouette shooting for many years. Since yours has the thumbhole stock, I would bet that most certainly is what it was used for. There are many good .284 bullets - most will knock down a ram at 500 yds. - and you can find loads in most manuals. Why not get started and try your skill at HP silhouette? Its mucho fun. Do a google search for silhouette competition.

Will be mainly used for long range target shooting/plinking. Bullet weights will range from 130gr to 168gr. Have a number of 130gr, 139gr fp, 140's and a few 168 left over from my IHMSA days. Have a few moulds too.

Unfortunately, no HP silhouette around here.

I have a Remigton 700 7mm08 in varmit configuration. It has the heavy barrel and came in a Remington,HS Precision)composite stock. It shoots 145gr Speer Sub MOA out to 500yds.

I had one for several years, broke my teeth in on long range
shooting using one, It was blued VLS with a 26inch barrel.
I used it with a Boyd Thumbhole stock and installed a Rifle
Basix trigger. I used Sierra 150 Matchkings and played with
120 v-max. Vmax were good for 3050fps and Sub Moa.

They also made a special run of SPS Varmint blued models. I've thought about picking one up myself, but I just acquired a 270 Sendero instead.
