Layne Simpson developed the 7mm SGLC,Simpson's Good Little Cartridge), which was the .308 Winchester necked down to 7mm, and fireformed to have a 40 degree shoulder. It pre-dated the 7mm/08 by a number of years.

Layne Simpson writes that he achieved 3000fps with a 140gr Partition, and used it to take a Shiras Moose back in 1976.

My opinion on 7mm-08AI is that the AI is so that I hardly ever need to Trim cases.
Cloud Peak Gunworks in Basin WY has a 30 degree reamer that still feeds out of a magazine great.

My whole family hunts with 7-08's
I shoot 168 Gr bergers in mine.
They shoot 139grain hornady factory sst or gmx
We live in Texas and shoot lots of Deer and Hogs mostly from 75 to 250yds.
Most are DRT.
Of course that could have something to do with breaking their Necks![]()
