Remington 700 SS 5R Milspec ???

light is really important since i have cataracts but not to the point for surgery i found myself constantly adjusting the objective lens in front to get a good view it didnt seem to stay focused but that also could have to do with the light changing while i was there sun in sun out lost light would cause me to have to adjust

yeh rather have a GM product , no big deal we all have to have something, waiting on battery for camera to charge for pictures , what kind of groups them ol guys shoot out at benchrest on thursdsay

Falconpilot,
Johnboy stated," When I do my part and the weather is OK my 5R will shoot 1.5" out to 500yds."

That sure sounds like he is saying that him and his rifle can shoot 1.5" groups on a regular basis out to 500yds day in an day out if the weather is good.

I am not trying to be a wise ass and I don't think anyone else was either. But just because someone shoots a group or two that is 1.5" at 500yds doesn't mean the gun or the shooter can do it all the time. That is what I and the other poster took form the post.

"IF" him and his gun can do it on a regular basis then the poster was saying he should try 600BR or F-Class and set a few records.

raptor, i took as (when i do my part) you know how some days your just on, i didnt take it as it was a constant only occasional

thanks for the support guys.that is what I was saying.for me just being able to go out and poke a few holes in a pice of papper is all I need to do.and being a part of this site is another part of the shooting world I love.

but by looking at FM's pics it shows that the 5R's are very well able to give out a 1.5" group out at 500 if the shooter and ammo is dead on at the same time.

way to go FM way to go.just need to load up some more to shoot at the match now.

If that is the case then I can agree with him. If he was stating that he could do that on a regular basis then I have to agree with highmaster82 on his comments.

The one reason I like this sight is that its made up of no BS shooters and you can have disagreements without them turning nasty.

I love learning about new things and sharing with other like minded shooters and this is a great sight for that.

I have not shot the 5Rs but have also heard good things about them. I wore out a couple of 308VS rifles and both are on there 4th and 5th barrels. One was a consistat .6 rifle and the other a high .5 rifle. One is now a 260 and the other is one of Roberts 6MMsuperXs.

THANKS JOHNBOY I WAS VERY HAPPY at the end of my sight in, and friggin cold to walk my butt off the ground was pretty muddy so driving out to target wasnt a option , when i first started shooting at the 300 you will notice mudd all over target i was way low but through the scope i just couldnt tell until i walk out there , and walked and walked and walked.

sorry to hear that you had to do all that walking.you may want to get a 4 wheeler or something of that nature.but glade the rifel is working for ya.after I make a few orders for some reloading stuff.I will be testing for the 208gn A-max and will let you know what happens.but they say they are kicking like a mule so I am not sure if that is something I really want to do.and its not that not I do not mind it at all.justrather not shoot that type of load to do what I am aimming for.

yeh that heavy of a bullet probably will kick heck out of you, they have a 4 wheeler at that range but maybe they only bring it out on wk ends going to find out just joined that one for the 300 my other club only has 100

Raptor

Like you guys..I love this site because it's generally "petty free"....I didn't see Johnboys post...my bad...but i still feel that the post was a little "unwarranted", and that trying to calling people out is unneeded....If you haven't got something positive to ad, jsut don't say anything...I do understand that sometimes people's groups may be "streched' a little, but who cares unless it's hurting someone or something.....

I own the 5R and love it. I found 43.5 gr RL 15 works well with 175 gr SMK at 2.802" OAL. It shoots @ 2620 fps. I shot 1/2" group at 400 this weekend and @ 3" group at 900 which was luck for me! In effort to keep budget in line, I mounted the Konus M30 6.5 X 25 on it and it shoots great!
Good luck with the new investment!

I love my 700SS-5R in .308. It shoots 175 VLD's sub MOA out to 400 but it loves the 190 VLD's even more. The 190's do give a little more recoil but a good shoulder pad cures that. Here's mine and a target.

hey for me the 5R's are a great rifel.it must be because I own 3 of them a 223,308,and a 300wm.but I just got the 300wm,so I need to start testing for it.

and yes if one is able to get a 5R tuned in good they will shoot out to 500 giveing 1.5-2.0 inch groups.mine again when I am able to do MY PART ALONG WITH THE AMMO will shoot a 1.5 group at 500.but hey I am just an old country boy that loves to shoot.so no need to prove anything I don't think.but hey just being able to shoot little holes at 100 and 2-3inch groups at 500 is all the fun I need.

and yeah FM how is it shooting now?

johnboy

I been thinking of buying the 5r in .223 it is just a great gun out of the box, as far as my shooting I been practiceing at 300 and shooting 1.7- 1.6- and once 1.5 I will be joining the club that has a 600 yard range and f-class so by next wk I will know how i do at 600 i bought a Leupold 45x i might want to sell my weaver 36 I also bought a 8x32x50 burris black diamond mil dot.

hey FM I can say for all three they all shoot.my 223 shoots the 75gn berger vld great even the 77gn NCC.but the funnt=y thing is that they are oushed by IMR's new 4007 powder.one 25gn and the other 25.5gn.and both shoot a small group.the 77gn bullet shout a .300 something 5 shoot group but when you take away the cold bore flyer it came to a .111 4 shoot group.and the 77gn bullet shoot a .300 something both at 100.

but today I was able to see what the 300wm will do.and I have to say it shoot good.the first ten did OK useing them to brake it in.but when I shoot the last five of the same load it shoot about a .500 group.then I shoot some old stuff from another 300wm I had and they all shoot about an inch.then I wanted to test for a 210gn berger BT and the ones loaded with ramshot magnum shoot reall good all so.so I am going to load up some more with a 220gn smk with 7828 and go at it again to see if they will shoot like the first 5 did.

so yeah in my book any 5R will shoot out of the box.just need to feed them what they want.but don't take my word.I sure don't need any one to blame me for makeing their mind up on a 5R.its just for me not being able to have a custom built evry time I want a new rifel.and after haveing a 308 I just had to see what the others would do.

and yeah FM how do you feel about the 5R's?is it waht you thought it would be.I hope it is.really love all three of mine.
