Remington 700 SS 5R Milspec ???

hey FM just remove your expander from your FL die and run them that way.had to do this one time when I sold a 308 and keep the ammo.so I lubed the ammo up and ran them through and they fit with no problem in my 5R.thats if you don't already know this trick.

with all these little bitty groups, you should try entering some competition, after all the 600 yd f classs is a great big 3 inches in diameter you should be able to go clean with 20x and set a national record after that jump into 600 bench rest and show them how its done ,

fm1947, it sounds as if for whatever reason you did not fully resize your brass before trying in the new rifle. I suggest you get a Redding body die as you will be able to resize your loaded ammo with it and it should then work in the new gun. The die is large enough in the throat area that it does not touch the cartridge there while resizing the body and resetting the shoulder length - hense the name body die.

I, too, would have a HARD TIME paying what new ammo costs there says.

johnboy , that worked ran loaded rounds through fl die thanks once i broke gun in and cleaned every round as recommended by remington i then went to out door range i put my weaver T36 scope on once i found where my bullet was hitting made a few adj on scope it shot a 4 round group at .502 100 yards and another .651 it was to cold to continue so waiting on weather to warm up and shoot again, can that stock be painted or colored in anyway i hate green, and what can i do maybe on barrel i would like it black if any of you have done changes I would like to see thanks for all your input

fm1947: Do I understand correctly that Remington recommended barrel break in of one shot and clean 20 times, then two shots and clean, another 20 rounds? I just bought/received the same rifle... as soon as 20" of snow melts, need to start breaking it in....

BTW, my Dad was in the 509th at Pease from 1958 - 1963. "Tanker Branch", if I remember correctly.

hey FM it sounds good to me.and yeah the weather has been to bad for me all so.cannot wait for it to warm up a little.now all you have to do is work on you powder charge a little and you will soon be a happy camper.

and yea the stock and all can be redone.just ask some of the guys here how and what they like to use.might just want to start another thred in the main forum or give a search a try.

keep up the good work FM and you want be sorry.John

What's this all about??

well that is why i bought this rifle for f class tr this wk end i will try it out at 300 then we will see what i need to do from there to shoot 600

I think what he is trying to say is 1.5" consistant groups at 500yds is a bit much. SO.......he may be throwing the BS flag on that one.

FM1947 Hope you get your rifle up and running this week ok. 1st F-class match is next thursday,Mar 4th, in Wright City, weather allowing ? Hope you make a few ! Few hours of drive for you but lots of fun, thats what its all about anyway! Its all about the fun, if it aint fun, count me out!

sdniel, are you going to be there? I hope to have it sighted at 300 by saturday i may even go today it is still a bit chillie but sun is out i am debating at this moment.

I don't remmeber anyone claiming 1.5" consistant groups at 500 yards?? Consistant 3/4-1" at 300...yes....I did...and I have...I can...And while I've not shoot a perfect 200/20X, I have shot a 200/18X...there really wasn't any need to being a wise ass...

fm 1947----I am only 20 minutes from range, I hope weather will allow a shoot next Thursday, I will be there if weather is OK.

Is the 5R a hammer forged barrel? My rem 223 had a hammer forged barrel. It was a great shooter but when I used it for 300 yd f-class it would heat up and give me problems. First course of fire would be 149-150 then second course of fire things would go down and the third couse of rie things would open up to 135-140 scores. Eventually replaced it with a rock creek barrel, just as consistent last round as the first. Your millage may vary, enjoy your rifle, wear out the throat, improve your shooting and then get a custom barrel.

well i went to the range today and first i had to find my bullet i had replaced my rings with burris and 20moa inserts after waisting 20 rounds , i started at 25yrds then 50 then 100 and 200 when 0 at 200 i went to 300 it was cold my hands were cold and barrel really never got hot i spent time with 2 rounds shots, well at 300 i was 8 inches low i walked that 300 yards 4 times that comes to 1.3 miles this ol man is whipped but after getting on at 300 i have a 5 round group at 1.255 now you guys said that when you measure from end of each furthest hole then you deduct the size of the bullet, i dont get that but that makes it .947 then i had a 3 shot group at .895 minus .308 is .587 I dont think i will stick with the weaver 36x it wasnt real sunny out and light was a issue for me. i like the 45x leupold, a little later i will take pics with calipers on the target and i will put on my photobucket

fm1947---at 300 yards you should see your bullet holes very easily, if on white paper, not black! You may not have your scope adjusted right, I have a T36 and can see the holes at 600--in the white, nothing wrong with a Weaver T 36.
