Remington 700 serial number question

I have 3 Remington 700's with a 3 letters (RAR) and numbers.

I am trying to figure out if they were manufactured during the trigger recall.

From what I can find so far is the 2 digit letters are Month and Year, but can't seem to find out about the 3 letters.

The triggers have the silver smooth surface with a set screw (not the flat grooved trigger).

Any help??

I'm not sure on the newer stuff so a call to Remington might be best but date of mfg used to be on the bbl and serial number had nothing to do with it, per se. That might've changed. You might get a more definitive reply or you might just call them and see what they tell you.

I saw a new 700 BDL 300WM at a store the other day. The stock was real nice, the metal finish wasn’t the old kind of blue but it looked very good.

The serial numerals you can ignore. Starting in 1921, Remington rifles have a two-letter code on the left side of the action. You must refer to their lookup table to decode it, @alf had the link spot on:

If it’s 4 digits without a letter prefix it seems it would be pretty early and they started in 1962.

Got a reference for that? "Early" for a 700 would be 1920s. I have a 1967 700 Varmint Special with 6 digits on the receiver. Supposing there was a correlation netween those digits and build date, why would the number of digits increase from 4 in 1962 to 6 only five years later? We need an outside reference to explain the significance of receiver digits which Remington chooses not to publish. And Blue Book Of Gun Values (the "Bible") chooses not to mention anything other than the letter code on the barrel.

Then I'd say you're SOL, unless a 700 expert could examine the receiver and find telltale indications of the approximate build date.

Remington used the same 2-letter date code scheme, starting in 1920, for all of their rifles and shotguns, with a few rare exceptions.
