Remington 700 serial number question

I have 3 Remington 700's with a 3 letters (RAR) and numbers.

I am trying to figure out if they were manufactured during the trigger recall.

From what I can find so far is the 2 digit letters are Month and Year, but can't seem to find out about the 3 letters.

The triggers have the silver smooth surface with a set screw (not the flat grooved trigger).

Any help??

I'm not sure on the newer stuff so a call to Remington might be best but date of mfg used to be on the bbl and serial number had nothing to do with it, per se. That might've changed. You might get a more definitive reply or you might just call them and see what they tell you.

  • Identify the serial number and provide it to Remington’s recall support team, either by entering it at xmprecall.remington.com or call 1-800-243-9700 (Prompt #3 then Prompt #1) Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT. You will be informed if your rifle is affected by this recall and supported with free resources to return the rifle for inspection and specialized cleaning.
  • You may also determine if your rifle is subject to the recall by a visual inspection.
    1. If the face of the trigger is ribbed (see Photo (1) below), your rifle does not have an XMP trigger and is NOT subject to this recall.
    2. If the face of the trigger is smooth (see Photo (2) below), your rifle has an XMP trigger and IS subject to this recall – in which case you should immediately seek further assistance at xmprecall.remington.com or by calling 1-800-243-9700 (Prompt #3 then Prompt #1) Monday through Friday, 9a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT.
 
Talking about Remington...big release on the new rifle last year - then nothing. Any seen the new gun?

I saw a new 700 BDL 300WM at a store the other day. The stock was real nice, the metal finish wasn’t the old kind of blue but it looked very good.

The serial numerals you can ignore. Starting in 1921, Remington rifles have a two-letter code on the left side of the action. You must refer to their lookup table to decode it, @alf had the link spot on:

I do not have the original barrel.

Got a reference for that? "Early" for a 700 would be 1920s. I have a 1967 700 Varmint Special with 6 digits on the receiver. Supposing there was a correlation netween those digits and build date, why would the number of digits increase from 4 in 1962 to 6 only five years later? We need an outside reference to explain the significance of receiver digits which Remington chooses not to publish. And Blue Book Of Gun Values (the "Bible") chooses not to mention anything other than the letter code on the barrel.

Maybe a 721 or 722 that I thought started in 48 but 700s started in 62
