Remington 700 SA, 6BR build

I am new to this and have a few questions on a Remington 700 SA, 6BR build with 28 inch HV barrel.

Will the glue in PTG Bench Rest Single Shot Follower along with a Single Piece Scope Base stiffen up a Remington 700 action any or do I need to even worry about it? What to use when gluing in the single shot follower?

When bedding the action should I add any bedding in front of the recoil lug?

Thanks Guys,

I did a search on Benchrest Central and found that some claim that the glue-in follower stiffens the action and some say it does not. But most agree that is does aid in the bedding of the action in the stock. I guess a larger bedding surface.

For the one piece scope bases most believe it does not stiffen the action, but there was a reference to an article in Precision Shooting Magazine about some one piece scope bases fitted to a Remington which strengthened the action. I guess one piece bases couldn’t hurt if you apply bedding between the base and the action.

Bedding a couple of inches in front of the recoil lug seams to be a personal preference the only good reason for not bedding in front of the recoil lug was if you change barrels you would have to redo the bedding.

JimC,
The 700SA is more than stiff enough for the 28" HV. No more tha 3/16" of bedding compound in front of the lug. I am running a 700LA w/ 31.5" Broughton Williamsport Taper,1.25 for 6" tpaered to .950" @ 30") plus a brake. Baity's Customs built the gun and it has aapprox. 3/16" of compound in from of the lug. It has shot 3.xxx @ 1K more than once.
