Remington 700 ADL 6.5x55

Texas

Silver $$ Contributor
A few years ago I bought a 700 ADL in 6.5x55. I've been a gun enthusiast my entire life and have never seen this before. I know they made this caliber in the 700 Classic but this is the only one I've ever seen in an ADL. It's a 1996 model with checkered wood stock.
Anyone else have one?

The Classic in 6.5x55 was made in 1994. The stock actually looked like the ADL version. In 1996 the Classic was chambered in 375 H&H.

I had one. Got it from a shop in TX. Tommy Guns (or something close to that) was the name of the shop. It is a true ADL. Remington had some extra barreled actions from the Classic run in 1994. They put them in ADL stocks and sold them off circa 1996. I bought mine ~1996 also.

As soon as I read earlier posts, I reckoned this would be the cause. (Nice to know I can still come to a correct conclusion occasionally! :) o_O )

Yes. I bought one the year they came out. Mistake! The initial bores were faulty and Remington ignored it at first until an article in Precision Shooting Magazine called them out. I called Remington and got the "run around" at first then they said they would rebarrel the rifle and eventually issued a recall. Part two! The replaced barrels were 1-9 twist rather than 1-8 and Remington did not disclose that...Returned the rifle. Did it ever shoot good. Never! It was awful.

the 6.5x55 round is utterly useless compared to the 6.5 creedmore (or less) even tho it pushes the same bullet as the creed a little faster

Very disappointing! Shades of Remington getting 6.8 Rem SPC wrong in more recent times. you've got to wonder just how well resourced the technical sections are in what are essentially engineering and production companies like Remington Arms that have fallen into the clutches of the moneylenders and bean-counters? :(

SPQR70AD - could you please expand upon your reasoning?
