Approximate age of a Rem 700 ADL 22-250

I've got dibs on an ancient Rem 700 ADL. The serial has been removed and renumbered by the South African Police and the only clue I have is that this ADL has a machined (or cast) follower. When did Remington change from these followers to the stamped parts? At least I will know how old it is.

BTW the action and barrel are in VGC. it will be an excellent donor rifle.

On the left side of the barrel is a code stamped just in front of the recoil lug. If you google Remington dates of manufacture you will find out all about the code and how to read it.
