Remington 7.5 sr benchrest primers

I picked up some of these today. I have never used Remington primers before. Never seen them until recently. I am going to use them in 223 in my Savage with a Criterion barrel.

Are they similar to FGMM sr primers? Thats what i have been using them in the 223. Power wise and cup thickness the same? Or close.

In one of my 223 bolt rifles i noticed that the Remington 7 1/2 were 30fps faster than the 205's. Same accuracy. I stock piled the 7 1/2 primers. I have never had an issue with them. I load several 223's rifles, 6x45, 20p all with them.

A little thicker cup and maybe a little more fire than Fed. 205. 7/12's are similar to the CCI 450. http://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php?topic=56422.0

Back when primers were hard to come by, I was able to buy 7,000 of these for my .20 cal. squirrel guns at a good price. Even though the thickness measurements are the same as 450s, I found them to be slightly softer and had more primer flow in the firing pin hole. In a bolt gun it probably won't matter. But in my Martini actions with a falling block, a softer primer made it more difficult to open the action. Since that time I use nothing but 450s. They did perform well for me, they just had a little more flow than the 450,s.

Can’t add anything that has not already been said, other than, they have been my go to primer for years. Even 30+ years ago they were not what one would say easy to find. All the hoorah about primer prices, I have 1K that I bought in the late 90’s, price was $78. I saw some listed a couple of months ago and bought 5K. I loaded some and saw no noticeable difference in old lots compared to the 2024 lot, over the chrono and on paper.
I figure they have went up $1 per K per year roughly. I just grumble and go on.

I've used them extensively in both the 222 and 223 Remington and found them to be excellent.

However, my go to small rifle primer for the 223 Rem is the Federal 205M but I have no qualms about using Rem 7 1/2 if the Federals are not available.

An excellent primer model - fairly 'hot' and with a 'tough' cup. I've had good results with them for 20 odd years in various cartridges. In fact, I'm still using 7 1/2BRs that I bought in bulk at ridiculously low prices by today's standards around 25 years ago. One of our (UK) main handloading components distributors bought these in huge numbers as its sole SR primer model for years and years - but I've not seen any new supplies on this side of the Atlantic for at least 10 years.

I see them as rivals to the CCI-450 and BR4, but with maybe not quite as hard cups. 'Hotter' and tougher than the F205M.

I've shot many thousands of them in my Varmint A/R's (.20 Prac., .223, .22 Nosler). Great primers. I've not used them much in bolt guns - but that is only because I already had favorites for them.
