Remington 7 1/2 on 30BR

Ok.. so Im just about out of my CCI BR primers for my 30BR. I do have (by my standards) a nice cash of the Remington 7 1/2s.
From the fellows who have shot both how much of a decrease in velocity should I expect?
Right now I'm seeing an avg for 2988 on Berger 115s with 34.72g of N130.

Thanks guys!

You may not see any drop at all. You may even see a gain. I would test the powder again with the Rem 7 1/2.

I spoke with Jim Stekyl @ Remington some 30 years ago, and he told me that the Remington 7 1/2 primer was considered to be a "Magnum Match" primer and depending on things like cartridge, caliber, barrel length, etc., velocity can increase over a standard primer by as much as 20 - 150 fps..

Jim was a Bench Rest shooter, so I took him at his word and what he said was very true!

Do a search of the Precision Shooting archive and look for German Salazar’s review of various primers. The test fired many different brands of LR n SR primers in a short bbl and photographed the flash of each primer. The REM 71/2’s were one of the more powerful SR primers.

I recently got a bad batch of Winchester SR's at Cabelas so I bought Rem 7.5's the next time through. So far, all of them have gone bang. I don't concern myself with 100 or so FPS. That wont help anything in a bad windflag read :). The smallest hole in a fairly flat node; now that's what one should strive to find.

I actually had a small increase with 7 1/2s from CCI 450s in my Dasher and they survive pressure very well too.

I did a Small Rifle Primer comparative test in 308 Win SRP Palma brass some years ago, and found this too. 30BR may reverse that of course, and primers are frequently lot-sensitive too (especially recently during times of severe shortages). As others have said, you'll find out when you try them ......... and retune your load if need be.

So I figured I was done with this thread, but I thought I would add just one more post.

When I decapped the brass last night I noticed something. The 10 pieces that had the 7 1/2 primers were very tight to remove. I use a hand tool and it took every bit of 2 hands strength to remove them.
All the cases had been uniformed with the sinclair tool prior to loading. Same goes for the flash holes with the 21st century tool.

When priming by hand the 7 1/2 felt no tighter then the CCI.

This could be a nothing burger. I just wanted to mention it.

Accuracy difference between the two?
