Remington 5R in 223 ?

Anyone have any experience with the Remington 5R in 223. This is a heavier barrel, 1-9 twist, HS Precession stock. This is not a catalog item, it is my understanding a dealer has to purchase it thru AcuSport.

Goal with this rifle is 300 and 600 yard paper punching off a bench, maybe f-class.

Thanks.

have one and as yet have not found its sweet spot........ good to 250 maybe 300 but pushing it still not close to 5 r 308 or 6 brx by mike but fun to shoot. trying to get there with everone just need more trigger time no way close yet. have a ball and let me know if you hit sweet spot. lot of luck to you rick

If it ever warms up, I have the same rifle.
Going to start with Berger 70 VLD and 8208 powder.
Please post what you find? Only load I shot was 52 Sierra with 748.
OK but not great and would not be long range load.

I would opt for an 8 twist. I'm shooting a 9 twist PacNor using 70 Berger and 69 SMK's at 600 yds for F-class. I have an 8 twist on another rifle and 80 SMK's and 80 A-max are better to shoot. I would not put much money onto a 9 twist again.

yes it is a a accu-sport exclusive it was when I purchased mine. For what you want to do go with the 308 5r offering go over to snipers hide web site lot of guys over there are shooting them. I have the 223 and it is my go to rifle in 223 so far it likes the 55 grain sierra blitz kings and the 69 sierra matchking so far those 55 grain sierra's are devastating on prairie dogs!

I had to have one as soon as I found out that Remington was going to chamber one in a 223. When I was able to get the one I own, I have yet to find anything wrong with it. Its been about three years now since I bout it, and has yet to have a factory round shot through it. My first got to load is with a 69gn NCC, or SMK with 24.0gn's of 8208xbr and the bullet just touching the lands. The second got to bullet is a 70gn Berger VLD with the same charge of the same powder with the bullet just into the lands.

With all that said I bout mine for the fun and love of shooting a rifle. I am not one to go see how better I can out shoot someone else. So far its been a blast to shoot with the two loads said above. When I can find the time to go shoot, I can put any number of rounds into the lid of a dip can out at 300 yards away. Some days are better but never yet worse, so far with that load and no need to out do another gent I am happy with the rifle. Not to forget its all so been a really great coyote killer. Plus my 13 year old daughter loves to shoot it when she goes with me.

so I'll say go for it but it's not up to me, just go with your gut and make sure to the fact it will do what you ask of it.

Steve3, I realize this post is 2 months old. I have a 5R in 308, & in 223. That said the 223 was a bit harder to find an accurate load than the 308. But, I've found on very accurate load, & another fairly good load. The best load I've found is a 53 grain Hornady V-Max over Varget powder. I've shot an honest 5 shot group at .340", & a couple others of .500". It also does well with Nosler 69 grain Custom Comps, over IMR-8208. I guess I'm different that some others, as I do like the H.S. stock, that the 5R's come with. I also feel there are some Savage rifles with the same 1-9" twist, & I'm sure that they will shoot as good or better. But, I am very happy with my 5Rs !! Idaho-45

I recommended one to a friend and we struggled to find a load that would shoot under an inch. Loaded 55 Hornady FMJ, 69 SMK, 60 Sierra HP, and about six different powders, as well as a couple different factory loads including 75 grain Match ammo. We spent so much gas and powder going to the range that he finally got frustrated and took it to a gunsmith.

The gunsmith pulled the barrel and said that one lug was not making contact. The friend ended up having him true the action and install a new match barrel. We have not had a chance to get out and shoot it yet.

I am a Remington fan and this was embarrassing to say the least. That X Mark Pro trigger is a joke, they should put something better on a 1,200 rifle.
