Remington 541T Advice

Like a dumb schmuck, I went and sold my pet 541S some time back and replaced it with a 541T when I found out it was being discontinued. Turned out it was the very last one in the state of Orygun. It's as new in the box with all factory paperwork and fired exactly one box (50ea.) of 22LR. In other words, about as pristine as it could be.

My question.....what is a 'real world' value on this rifle?

I see the 541T's at auction for around $700 to $900 price range new in the box and as new slightly used . The 541S is seen rarely but usually $850 plus for used with some little or no wear to new in box @ $950 to $1100. Gunbroker and private sales differ extremely as I picked this 541T that needed a little work for $500IMAG1067.jpg

Sent mine over to Bob Green to do a trigger job. Came back with no creep and just over a pound pull. Made a big difference in shooting. Had a few scratches on the stock and a couple rub marks and nicks on the barrel that I fixed and it turned out to be a good shooter. Glad I have one.

I have a 541-T sporter bbl. Wearing a Leupold 6.5x20. It loves Fed hp Wally world bulk ammo. I bought it setup like this for...650.00 @ 5 years ago.(Bonus of 4 extra mags that came out of a drawer when i was filling out the 4473). Gun is spotless, scope has a few scratches, still, I think I did ok.
 
IMO the "T" are worth $500-650 anything more and you are in the "S" price range and as far as T vs S for every T that will shoot as accurate as a S you will find a dozen that won't. "S" can still be found in the $700-800 range

As an owner of a “T” I have to agree. Matter of fact, most of the old plain 581 and 582 rifles will shoot with (or better) than my 541T.
 
I bought my 541T in '93 & put an inexpensive Tasco 6-24x44 scope on it. This rifle flat hammered with Win Super-X hi vel HP ammo - I'd bought a case of it just a couple of years prior to getting the rifle, so it was blind luck having a supply of ammo that shot well in a rifle I hadn't even bought yet.

However, those cheap 5rd plastic mags started causing feeding issues, and then I got into XC & LR prone HP, so the 541 sat in the closet, largely neglected. Also bought several of the 22RF target rifles the CMP was peddling back in the early 2000's, along with a couple of Anschutz prone rifles...for a brief time, I considered selling the 541T. Glad I didn't - after getting a couple of stainless steel mags from John Reed, the rifle feeds much better, and these magazines will still be going strong long after I'm dead & gone. Now I need to do some trigger tuning - mainly, shortening or replacing the sear spring with a lighter one. Have never liked the break of the factory trigger - it's just too heavy to suit (4lbs) with the trigger adjusted for as light a pull as possible. I want to get it down to at least 2lbs, and 1lb would be even better. All my other 22RF rifles are set up as prone or practical/tactical rigs, so weigh in the 12-14lb range. Would like to have the 541T to carry, and a good trigger job is basically all it needs to satisfy me.
 
I have never been around the 541S, but my 541T flat shoots. I have a 6 power Hunter benchrest scope with the target dot reticle. All I shoot with it is English sparrows and starlings. I shoot mainly cheap Thunderbolt ammo. If I miss, it isn't the rifle. Trigger pull is a little more poundage than I prefer, but it breaks clean with no creep right out of the box. Tried the trigger on several 22's at a gun show the day I bought this and it was the best of the lot. I remember trying a Browning A bolt and I was very much under impressed with the trigger on it.
 
I actually have a single shot adapter for my 541T. And the barrel is drilled and tapped for iron sights which I have. Is this an unusual item?
 
Ran across a 541s yesterday. 750 bucks wearing on a 4X Redfield extra 10 round mag and iron sights. It has been used but the action was still tight and smooth. Quite a few dings on the stock, nothing major. A little bluing wear on the bolt knob. It was on consignment. I'll be back in Colorado in a month or so and see if it's still around.
 
Appreciate all the feedback. I'm pondering selling my 541T to fund another project, but still a bit skeptical about letting it go. I've been through "seller's remorse" more than once. Still don't really know what to ask for it. Don't want to give it away, but don't want to ask too much either.

Seems like in 99.9% condition and in the box with all original factory paperwork, it should be worth what a 541S is now, but in about another five years or so. Wait or sell? Wait or sell?......
 
I have a NIB 541-T complete paid 775.00 delivered many years ago and have a NIB 541-S complete and paid 1350.00 so draw your own conclusions. I will keep them til I can no longer shoot. I do have a 541-T that shoots as good as any of my 541-S rifles that i regularly shoot. Yeah I love my remington 541 rifles.
