remington 504 - anyone shooting one?

i picked up a 504, found it did not shoot compaired to the 541, so did a lot of beding, free float, etc. and found it shot about .900 at 100, using cci mini mag which is my pd 22 round for under 100 yd,

any one of you have done better, what did you do to improve, it seems the bbl is ok but the stock bedding is very different from the 541

Took one in on trade.....Set it up as a night fighter ..Light- red dot- CB longs....Shot for crap but wiped out my armadillo problems...Tried looking at the receiver for a new BR build the trigger was good but not that good..Bought a receiver/ trigger for the build...Mine is the sporter version...Might make a squirrel rifle with some attention..I have no attention span and no squirrels,,SO......LT

Bob,
If it shoots a true consistant .900 at 100, I think it is doing very well.

Unless it is at 50yds. A Remington problem child. Shilen makes a barrel for them. RFC will have some good info for you.

it is a 100 and i called Shilen and after discussing with him - he suggested his bbls would not produce any better results with the ammo i was using - we discussed what i had done on the bedding etc and it seems it is at the limit for cci mini mag which i use for pds.

i may try some target ammo for funs just to see what the problem child will do, some folks must have given up on the action/bbl too soon.

Butch, I have no idea how I did that . I thought I was putting a line below the quote, to comment on a comment.
Bob, .9-1.0 @ 100 yds. for a .22lr is not real common with any off the rack .22lr.

Pat,

i have had 541t's that do it 3 of them one for me and one for each of my sons - bedding, and free float, adjust trigger and they shot.. the 504 was a real struggle, as the design of the stock - weak grip area- and the design of the action bedding is uggggggly. i even called the Rem service guys and the mumbled a lot so i knew it was a design problem. they should never have dropped the 541.

i completely redid the bedding, like a 700, and floated the bbl, adjusted the trigger to 2 3/4lb and with a 3x9 luep it finally shot the .9-1.0 groups. i truly believe the stock/bedding design gave the action/bbl/trigger a bad name as once i overcame them it shot.

I have bed all of my rimfire rifles I own, except my Sako Quad, and I have not decided if I will leave the plastic stock on it. Bedding and action screw torque on rimfires can make a huge improvement. What really is a killer is a bug flatulating moves the brick shaped slug around at 100 yds. and the wind usually is blowing.
