Remington 40X actions???

Does anyone know where I can get a Remington 40X action without buying the complete rifle. I am setting up for a new build and would like to use a 40x for the base action. It's going to be a .308 repeater/not single shot. The clip slot and externally tunable trigger are the main features that interest me in the 40X

I heard about Chester's Hunting and Fishing out of NY that might be a good source, but has anyone on here dealt with them in the past?

Your call what action you use but wouldn't one of the modern tactical/Varmint actions be a better option as a repeater than a 40X??

I don't know about 40x's at all- we don't see them here in AU aside from pictures on the web.

Still er Predator might be worth a look or sturgis rifles action

You bring up some good points.

The main reason I want to go with the 40X is that you don't see many of these built up as tactical rifles. I plan on building this up to a 500-900 yd tactical shooter and I didn't want to use a Rem 700 as a base.

I am aware that the Rem 700 and 40X are essentially the same beast. The externally adjustable trigger is for ease of tuning when I get it all put together. The clip slot will also come in handy if I decide to do some iron sight matches in the future.

There are quite a number of 40X Rem,s in OZ. I have owned three centrefires and one rimfire 40X.

Take a good hard look at the Surgeon actions. For the cost of obtaining a Remington 40X action, having it trued, and a good quality 20 MOA scope base, the price gets within reason. They are really very good actions.

Might contact Terry Cross,KMW - Long Range Solutions) an email at KMW308@aol.com and ask him to send a packet on his work on tactical rifles. I have two of his guns and highly recommend his work and him as a great guy to deal with.

I went the Remington action route as I wanted iron backup sights and did not want the iron sight to be on the scope base. Otherwise I would not have hesitated to get the Surgeon action.
