Rem 788: source for parts?

Friend gave me his well used 788 in 22-250 to do a little work on, and is thinking about upgrading to to make a score shooter out of it.

Pesently, the bolt pulls out the back with no stop, the bolt stop is worn pretty hard, and will need a new one to start. Are there any sites that have breakdowns of Remintons so I can order a part or 2?

He's also thinking of rebarreling it, I suggested 6mmBR or 30BR, or maybe even a 6XC. The wheels are turning.....

I have shot BR with my 788. Mine has several improvements that help operation. First I have a Canjar set trigger. About the same as a good BR trigger. I have a Hart BR barrel on mine in 6X47. Stock has Monte Calo on it with a flat 2 1/2" forend. I don't have a bolt stop but that is easy to add. As far as pressure on lugs with 9 lugs you will never get them all to bear on. The extra lugs are for saftey but are not necessary. I have 3 lugs in one logitudal row lapped in, works fine for me. I run BR pressures.
Accuracy I shot my first 2 groups in the 1's at 100 yds with my 788. It took a couple months but I shot a .25 agg at 100 yd. Now I am a big boy BR shooter so I shoot my 788 for a change in practice only.
I recently bought a real near new 788 medium taper barrel, rare, in .223. Factory trigger has been worked on for great pull. Walnut stock. I expect it to shoot some 1/4" groups on occasion. Realistically it should be a consistent 1/2" group gun at 100. At 200 maybe a 3/4" group gun but not consistently. Remember I shoot 100/200 BR. I know there are not any factory or custom guns that can beat a BR rifle at it's game. Maybe on the computer but not at the Range.
G get the snap bolt stop if you like but having the bolt slide out is nice too. Enjoy your 788 it is a better accuracy gun than most custom or high profile company guns. Been there done that.
Buy a decent scope with the money you have saved. A Leupold 12X should keep you going.

Here is another place to go hunting parts for the 788 Remington.

Pennsylvania Gun Parts

As a side note, these folks bought all of the rights, and tooling, from Remington. In essence, they "own" the 788. I have never had to order any parts for my 788, other than magazines, but the feedback has been good from folks that I have sent over to them.

Cordially,
