rem 783 bolt head

I believe Adam of Dresden Rifle Company has done this conversion very successfully. He is a member, maybe he will chime in. A cool option for a 700 bolt with a blown/ruined bolt head. May also help with primary extraction issues if done correctly.:D:D

how do you deal with the anti bind slot in the extraction side lug
will not limit the travel of the extractor??????

it is a spare bolt, I already replaced it with a PTG
I really don't need it, just seeing if I could salvage it
if you do not try something you have never done before, you will always wonder if you could have saved it
there is however, a limit on how far to go

What's wrong with it , maybe another fix

I screwed the extractor up a couple of years ago when I faced the bolt face off
[ bushed the firing pin]
with winter coming on, looking for things to due
why not try some experiments on that bolt??
plan c, a M16 conversion is the most practicle
a floting bolthead is a tempting project, havnt given up on that yet
just found a thread from Dresden gun works and Mike Ezell that was very informative

Another fix not commonly done anymore . The factory bolt was assembled with many pieces , the bolt head was one . It was permanently attached but can be cut off and another donor bolt head ( from a bolt with a screwed up cam, handle ,or bolt sleeve threads can be brazed or silver soldered on .
No firing pin redo needed . Though if you can do any of these a firing pin rebuild is pretty easy . You could also try a Mauser or 1903 Springfield bolt head and make a controlled round feed 700 with the claw extractor . I've never done this , repeat , IVE NEVER DONE THIS , but have been tempted to a few times . Life's too short at this stage for me to waste time . I'll never finish the projects I started . Good luck

If anyone has any more ideas or thoughts on this. My interest is [peaked] piqued! lol
