Something that needs to be pointed out, not all machinists are gunsmiths, and not all gunsmiths are machinists. There is a point where trades cross over, but 1 trade should not be confused with the other. Who knows what end mill the machine shop broke. Was it center cutting, or no? How was it held, the cutter and the bolt? What is the skill level of the person attempting this? Not all machine shops are equal, just as all gunsmith shops are not equal. Machine shops can range from CNC production to manual machines in a repair shop and everything in between. Lots of gunsmith shops out there that do noting but machine work, and then there are those that do no machine work, and those that do both repairs and machine work. Taking gun work to a machine shop may not always be the best route, unless the machinist is a "gunsmith machinist".
