rem 700?

i was digging around in my other safe and found a rem 700 i bought a couple of years ago at a garage sale for 200 dollars never really looked at it, just put it away, well after removing the cheap scope and bases i found a clip slot and then i looked at the serial number and found it to be 5 digits with a barrrel stamp of x j which i beleive is first year production, were all 700's clip slotted? and drilled for sights on the left side of the reciever? or maybe were all 40x's not marked? the clip slot is factory done. its a long action in 30'06.
thanx for the info

Rem 721's,722's & early 700's were machined with a slot in the rear receiver bridge over the mag well.
A stripper clip slotted receiver will also have 2 center drilled half holes per say on each side of that slot as clip stops.
The right side of that slot will be milled back approx 3/8" and blended/radiused to the back of the ejection port to leave more room for the thumb while stripping 5rds.
40X repeaters are machined slightly different than 700's in the rear receiver ring area.
