Rem 700 vs 40x

I have been trying to find another single shot type Remington for a build. Although I see LOTS of cool custom builds done on repeater actions.

Should I just get over the whole single shot thing? DO the single shots shoot better than the repeater type with the follower installed? I think there is lot of price wars over single shots, but no seems to give a poop about the repaeter actions and they can be had pretty darn cheap...

Is this going to be a competition rifle? And if so, how small groups will you have to shoot to be competitive and what caliber are you going with? WD

I have a Kreiger 223ai barrel and bolt for my 40x 6br. I use that caliber for practice at 100 yards because it is very cheap and pleasant to shoot. I am tired of changing barrels so I was trying to find a cheap 40x action for that barrel and bolt to make another rifle. 40x actions in questionable shape are running nearly as much as brand new custom actions!!!

In fact... Guns are pretty cheap right now but parts are high... I find that interesting...

Interestingly I could buy a repeater GUN for what people want for an action... And you can't sell a repeater gun for the price of the parts...

I have a book full of 100 yard groups at .25" to .375" with an occasional half that...

I would buy a repeater action and use a single shot adaptor as I did to build another 6 br for hunting.It shoots in the 2's and 3's pretty easily.If you want a single shot look on benchrest central as there are a couple after markets for a decent price last time I looked .

Agree with jonbearman. I have a Rem 700 that is sporting a 6br chambered barrel now. Just had the smith glue in a follower plate and let it be at that. I get groups similar to what jon is posting..... low 2's sometimes and low 3's about any day...... depends on the nut running the trigger. WD

sigh... Sinclair is selling new 223 actions for $369 today... but I don't have an ffl...
