Shooting F-TR with a repeater action

I use BAT VR Repeater for all my match rifles, for flexibility of use as in my part of the World we have a limit nunber of guns we can have. But I do use a single shot block to ease the loading and spare a few ounces taking out the magazine spring, box and follower.

With these rifles I won Full Bore Mid Range Team, 3rd Place Full Bore Mid Range Individual and a couple Matches on last years of US Nationals F-Class Long and Mid Range as well as US Soutwest F-Class Nationals.

The main diference I see is the coned bolt head of the single shot actions.
Otherwise, the rifles are very, very precise... around 0,35 MOA.

But, for a shooter living in the US, I would not think twice: I would go straight for a Single Shot Custom action. It is easier to shoot, easier to build a rifle, potentially more precise (rigidity, more tenon, coned bolt etc) and it will retain the action value for a long, long periodo of time, if you decide to seel it.

LRCampos.

I used a factory Rem 700 action for years, it was fine. But it was trued. I then had to put a better trigger on it. I shot some good scores with it. I even won with it. Why I put a factory action in with a top grade barrel, trigger and stock? I didn't know better.
But you can't compare it to a custom. Everything just tightens up. It's more consistent. You don't fight to close it, ignition is more reliable etc etc.
Having been down this road for way longer than I should have. I wish I'd just bought a custom action / rifle right from the get go. As factory does hold you back. You're not getting honest feedback. So it's harder to improve.
1000% agree with the rifle being accurate enough to provide good feedback.

Did the serial numbers start with RR or RAR?

The one I had was as smooth as any of the nitrided Pierce actions I've had. I did use a dremel to slightly reduce the height of the cocking ramp and did cycle it a bunch to get it smoother. I also bought a fat firing pin to reduce the 'Remington cratering'. But, never blanked a primer.

It held 3/4 MOA at 100 yards with lots of 1/2 MOA groups shot from prone with a sling. I did no shooting from a bench or bipod. My load developed stopped as soon as I got two less than 1/2 MOA 5 shot groups. I've assumed that if it were shot from a bench and with a bit more load development, it would hold closer to 1/2 MOA.

From my understanding of F-TR, that rifle would have been capable of winning local matches.

I 1000% agree with the need for the rifle to be accurate enough to provide good feedback. You would need to be able to shoot the difference in accuracy to benefit from it.

You can get a SLED device to go in your magazine and that will make it a single shot. However it should load just fine by placing the single round on the rails and closing the bolt. You won't be limited by using a repeater until you reach the pinnacle of the sport.
I have quite a few Rem 700 repeaters. Single feeding them is not ideal. If I simply place a round on the rails, the case mouth hooks on the chamber when I push the bolt forward.. The only ways to reliably run a REM single feed is to have a single feed follower, or to CAREFULLY place the round up into the chamber deep enough so the mouth is past the start of the chamber.

Just my .02,

Tod

That's why I always liked to put a small chamfer on the edge of the chamber so the mouth of the cartridge doesn't catch on it.

I’m pretty sure the guy who shot the OKC 1K state championship this year and won it was using a repeater also has 2 TSRA championships LR and MR and 5 2 man championships among a few others I’m leaving out using a repeater action.. so yes they will work.
I know that guy!
