Rem 700 vls chamber

recently purchased a 223 vls my brass is trimmed to 1.755
in length. i'm seeing shiny spots on the ends of fired cases
wonder if the chamber neck is a little on the short side
any sugestions from you remington gurus

The way Remington 700's eject, with the spring plunger makes the end of the case hit the end of the barrel and the edge of the action. As long as your cases are the correct length I don't think you have a problem. You can put your finger along side the bolt and hold the case straight as you open the action. Hold until it clears the action and check the mouth of the case for a rub.
Hope this helps

thanks for the reply, that sounds like the answer to the marks
on the cases. they were not all the way around, only on one side
of the mouth. already trimed all my cases once to square the mouth, didn't want to do it again

I just went through this same phenomenon, But to a more extreme degree. My 6br cases were coming out of the chamber with a flare on one side of the mouth. I held the case with my finger to keep it coming out of the chamber as strait as possible, but still had the flare. The ejector spring was so stiff that it was actually cocking the loaded rounds to one side of the chamber:,,I personally like my rounds to be centered in the chamber:D).I posted the problem here and got the ejector response from a couple of posters. So I took out the ejector but running pretty hot loads would lead to brass cutting off the base of the case from the sharp hole on the boltface where the ejector used to be. So I shortened the spring and now have the ejector back in place. The rifle is shooting great now, so I guess what I'm trying to say is you may want to fix your extractor problem because the darn thing may be causing your reloads to be off center with the bore axis.

I don't think i have a problem that bad. i am neck sizing only and have many firings on some of my brass with no chambering problems. off center chambering would make the fired brass
lopsided and lead to full length resizing????????????
anyway, i'm getting under 1/2 moa groups at 100 yds and don't want to change anything.
just finished bedding my stock using the materials shown on the
article about "richards" custom rifles. that devcon is the only way to fly. did a beatiful job
