?? New Rem 700 bedded ??

Question for anyone who has purchased a new Rem 700 VLS lately. I guy at work bought a "New Rem 700 VLS" from gun broker and he asked what all the rough shiny stuff is on the stock? I asked him where it was...his answer was under the front of the action but not in recoil lug area and the back tang area. IMO I don't think it's new !! I've haven't seen any NEW ones with any type of bedding done. Is this the way they come now ??

Not alum...those are on the HS precision stocks or whatever the other fiberglass stocks they use. This is on the VLS stock. It's a laminated wood stock.

What color is this stuff on the stock?

Well...as it turns out the guy didn't really know what he was talking about. The stock is fine and no factory bedding. It just had a lot of lacquer sprayed on it.
