Rem. 700 threads

I just got my Davidson barrel vise & action wrench
(right hand Rem.)but need to know (since I have never removed a barrel) if the threads
on the action are right hand or left hand.
Would appreciate any advise on doing it.

Right hand thread. But, if it's a factory barrel you may play hell trying to unscrew it with a Davidson vise and wrench.

Rear entry like the borden wrench.
Heat the barrel at the junction with a propane tourch.
Those older Remintons had a type of lock tite on the threads.
Just be careful not to over heat the barrel Easy does it.

have a look in the for sales, there is a forum member selling barrel vice and action wrenches. I know you already have yours, but he was also kind enough to post links to some of his videos on youtube . It might give you some ideas .

A hot air gun like they use to remove tiles will do you a good job on loosening those pesky old Remington barrels....

I would not use a rear entry wrench on a factory barrel.

You might consider simply having a gunsmith taking off that factory barrel. Then use your Davidson outfit for any subsequent changes.

Doc can answer for hisself, but I would use nothing but a good vise and and an outside action wrench for a factory barrel. Sometimes you will find that even that will not do the job.

get ready to for the time of your life , i removed 6 barrels now and the toughest one was a remington 660 i have that the barrel was toast in , WOW!! it took alot of time to get it off , i took the torch idea ans waited ill there was like black gum bubbling out of the recoil lug then it was a good pull of the wrench to beak it loose just heat it up good i have a wheeler action wrench and a vise but gonna upgrade with a better vise and get me a rear wrench since they dont have to go as tight as the factory .

A rear entry wrench is fine if you slide it all the way to the front ring. Don't ever use any wrench on the rear ring.

I would recomend both a Brownells wrap around action wrench and a Brownells Barrel vice on all factory barrel removals. The Davidson's barrel wrench and Kelbly's rear entry wrench are both great pieces of tooling and I use both of them regularily. But Factory installed barrels offer their own set of problems. There is nothing better than using the right/best tool for the job especially the first time.

If it is a junk barrel you don't care about, I have cut (scored) around the barrel just at the lug barrel junction to the shank, to relieve the thread torque, then the barrel came off easier with the heat gun help, some times they even come off by hand.

Thanks for all the input guys. I did have to get my gunsmith to remove barrel (do not know what he used)
Bought one of the rear entry wrench & vise that Paul B. makes and removed barrel from other Rem. 700 with no problem. Gunsmith suggest using Permatex Anti-seize # 133K or Bostik (never-seez) #nsbt-8n when installing barrel.

Skip the cave man antics.
Make a cut on the barrel just in front of the receiver into the barrel to releive the
tension of barrel / receiver. Cut deep enough to go below the receiver surface, but don't cut off threads.
Easy as can be , no torches, no banging, no torqued actions.

You mean in front of the LUG not the action like I posted already.......the best and easiest way without a doubt.
