Rem 700 single shot action

I just got off the phone with James at Northland shooters. We had a long and interesting talk about one of their new products that they are just starting to carry.
James will be getting in a short action, single shot, stainless steel Rem 700 target action with the 0.473" bolt face and comes with a trigger on the action. The action will be closed on the bottom, in the true single shot style, and in right bolt, right port design.
I think this would give me a great start for an other P-dog rifle or to start target shooting by putting one of Northlands "Remage" barrels/headspacing nut and the recoil lug on, into one of my stocks on hand.
Do I want a new caliber 6 BR, 6 XC, or one of my old ones .243 AI. Choices. Any thoughts Guy's.

Midwest Gun Works carries these as well; they generally sell out in a matter of hours from what I notice.

I too am on the list when they come in, 465.00 I think it was.
these actions are the same action used in their new Ultimate ML, obviously they are selling well.

Why do a remage? Pin the recoil lug and buy an action wrench. I don't really understand why the remage system is so popular. Traditional barrels with a tradition shoulder is much easier to swap out. Headspace is always consistent. I have done a few barrel nut jobs for folks but I truly don't understand the desire? Just me I guess. Lee

I agree, but you can buy a prechambered barrel for about $300ish. Of course nothings free and I doubt the chambers are cut with the care of a good smith.

Not everyone has a lathe and knows how to chamber barrels, thus a barrel nut system saves people cash when swapping barrels.

Good point. didn't I didn't think of it as far as saving money. I didn't know you could get a chambered barrel for 300$ . Lee

I have one of the single shot 700 actions. Great deal for the money and it actually has very good primary extraction. I think I paid 375.00 through Brownells when they had them in stock. Basically a stainless 40x with Remington 700 engraved on it. :p:D

So these are actions meant for the muzzleloader remington sells and thats why they are available or are they just a special run of rem 700 actions?

To Skeet You do save money buying the savage or remington barrel nut system barrels compared to having a gunsmith chambered barrel but I think a bigger thing for alot of people is time. You can buy a remage off the shelf and have it on your gun in a few days (mabie weeks) instead of waiting on months of turnaround time from many gunsmiths. Hopefully youre helping with this.

I can and have done a few of the remage barrels for some clients. There is nothing to it really. No matter the job remage or standard shouldered barrel, I can usually have the barrel in and done within a week two at the most. For now anyway. I like a shouldered barrel myself, and if asked I would always suggest it. Im happy to do whatever the customer wants. Lee

You are definitely helping the situation with your quick turn around times on chambering jobs. Thanks
